Inviting all Penguin Lovers - New Year 2020 is fast approaching, time for a Penguin Party!! :D
This year we'd like to do something a little different, so get ready to party with Linux capable games YOU CHOOSE!

As 2020 nears and official support for Windows 7 ends, the time to share a love of Linux capable games has never been better. The purpose of this party is to share with other gamers your favorite Linux capable games and maybe start the 2020 New Year with a new favorite Linux game of your own!

Party will end midnight UTC December 31st 2019.

1) Bring a favorite guest -
List 1 or a few of your favorite Linux capable GOG games you have played and would suggest to other gamers, and how it is Linux compatable. Games which qualify are those 'marked with a Penguin' on GOG, on adamhm's wrappers list or ./playit list. If not on these lists and you've gotten a favorite game to work well in Linux (wine, etc) please share how.

For non-Linuxers, you can still enter by seeing if your favorite game(s) are Linux capable - just see if your favorite game qualifies on the above lists and tell us which list you found it on. :)

2) Make a gaming New Year's resolution -
Funny or serious, it doesn't matter - just make a gaming related New Year's resolution.
(Friendly teasing on how long they might last is allowed.)

3) Dance with a Penguin -
Post if you are in or not, then choose a (1) Linux GOG game of $20.00 USD or less that you'd like to win.
To qualify the game must be 'marked with a Penguin' (on Gog's list of Linux games). List the game at the bottom of your post. Choice of game may be edited or changed until end of giveaway, but must still be a GOG Linux game of $20.00 USD or less. A game with DLC's that add to $20 USD or less will qualify as a game choice, or you may ask for qualifying 'Penguin marked' DLC's to a single game you already own within the $20 USD limit. With GOG's Winter Sale prices, there are a lot of great games that qualify! :)

Please only enter if you truly wish to play your chosen game this coming year, not to stuff it in some backlog.
Your Penguin wants to play, not to be forgotten and lonely!
- You must have a GOG account dated before November 2019 to participate.
- Your chat messages setting must be set to "everyone" at the end of the giveaway (midnight 12/31/19) so I can PM you your key or your entry will be disqualified. (Please check this as GOG does not have this setting by default.)
- Keys must be redeemed by the account entering this giveaway. Any key not redeemed by 15 January 2020 may be given to another entrant or reserved for a future giveaway.
- Known scammers, rude people and game grabbers (those who only post to get games) will be thrown out of the party (disqualified) ... our Penguins don't want to dance with them. :p

+1 for the generous giveaway. I've been dual-booting W7 + Mint (XFCE) for over a year and am definitely more impressed with Linux support today vs several years back (in terms of native builds beyond relying on WINE, etc). We're not there yet with having it on most games (nor the option of a client), but it's slowly getting better.

Top three favorite Linux capable games are (all native Linux builds and worked fine with GOG's offline installers): 1. Don't Starve. I just love everything about it from the art-style & gameplay to the humour & modding. 2. Quern Undying Thoughts. Despite being made by a different developer, I enjoyed it more as a spiritual successor to Myst than I did Cyan's Obduction. 3. Divinity Original Sin. The best in the series.

My New Year's Resolution is: Backlog clearance. Seriously this time, rather than just say I'll do it and then not, this year I've made a list from oldest to newest and am crossing each one off one at a time (already gone through three before the New Year has even started).

The Penguin I'd like to win is: Stardew Valley.

I'll start my participation in this thread off on a tangent: my absolute favourite Linux-game isn't a game at all, but a game engine: Exult!
It is natively Linux and it makes one of the best games (Ultima 7) playable on Linux and even improves it.

The other greats of engines/emulators are of course ScummVM and Dosbox. But I'll revisit those - and proper Penguingames like Supertux and Tuxracer - in a later post.

1. My favourite guest: Opus Magnum
Definitely one of the best games I've played in 2019. As all Zachtronic's games it is both: a) absolutely awesome, providing unique concept and challenging puzzles, b) delivered with native Linux installer. Highly recommend.

2. My resolution for 2020: make some spectacular crpg journey
The year 2019 was not very kind for my gaming hobby. I had a lot of work and study responsibilities. I really hope there is a change ahead in 2020. When my spare time's resources are rebuilt, I'll be able once again to play my beloved, huge, complicated and story-rich crpgs and adventures games. One of my dreams is completing Baldur's Gate saga in 2020.

3. My choice for the next dance: Blade Runner
The game I've never played and the one I've always had on my must-play list. I liked the book and I didn't like the movie, but I have reason to believe that the game may be better than both.

1. My favorite game, out of what I've bought this year, was Slipstream. It may be not the greatest racing game in the world, but it had enough fun to drag me in for a while (but its one of these games, that will be fun only if you play with gamepad). From technical side, its also interesting for its usage of appimage - if Im not mistaken, its one of few (if not the only) games on gog's storefront to be distributed like that.
And, if we will talk about favorite all-times - this place will obviously go to Stardew Valley. Damn, I feel like I've spent about thousand hours in this game, without even using mods - and amount of content keeps raising with each new update.
2. My resolution for 2020: stop sleeping, start playing. 2019 for me was kinda... well... I dont even remember it, to be honest. Looking back, amount of my achievements during this year (both games-related and not) was next to none - there are very few things I've explored by myself, mostly preferring watching other people doing their stuff instead. Hopefully next year will come as sort of awakening from this state - I have so many things to do and so many things to play.
3. The penguin I'd like to win is: Dead Cells.

Favorite Linux game is good old Battle for Wesnoth but Dirt Rally deserve the best port award. Unlike many other high profile Linux ports that run like a scalped pig, including CS-GO (might be better now), Feral's Dirt Rally is so smooth, runs like a dream, way better than in Windows.

New year resolution finish more games and sop playing the same games again and again.

Not in as I don't use Linux and prefer other getting better chance at the nice stuff. Don't worry, I still got a couple nice games to play. Also +1 for being a nice chap as always.

1) I would wholeheartedly recommend Doom 2. Although GOG does not list it as a Linux compatible, its source code was released over 20 years ago and is supported by multiple sourceports. You must take doom2.wad from your GOG installation and run it via GZdoom or Chocolate Doom. Place doom2.wad in the same folder as the executable for one of those sourceports. GZdoom, Chocolate Doom, and most other Doom 2 sourceports are fully Linux compatible.

2) As far as New Years gaming resolutions go, I want to complete Deus Ex, which looks like an awesome game.

As I've mentioned in other threads, I'm a W7 user looking to adopt Linux in 2020. Going to test drive Mint and/or Pop!_OS within Virtualbox as a first baby step. Once I am ready, I shall holler for help on transitioning to a dual boot setup.

1. Happy to see that some of my GOG purchased games come with a Linux version. :) I love so many games, yet I often find myself returning to Starbound and Terraria, both found on GOG 'Penguin marked' Linux games list. And I'm discovering for the first time ever that some of my favorite purchases are on the List of Wrapper Releases: Bioshock 1&2, Dead Space, Fallout series, The Witcher 3 (wow!) and the soon-to-explore, Dragon Age Origins.

2. My gaming-related resolutions for 2020, in no particular order...

1) Bring a favorite guest - Shadownrun: Dragonfall.
Worked great out of the box on linux, and really hit that itch for an isometric tactical rpg with a proper fully fleshed-out narrative IMHO. Only downside is that the game is way too short even after the multiple playthroughs with different load outs.

2) Make a gaming New Year's resolution - Less time spent on OpenTTD and replaying some RPGs to get to the other NPC story arcs. Dragon Age Origins comes to mind.

3) Dance with a Penguin - Tyranny - Deluxe Edition.
Winning would mean that I am less likely to actually keeping to #2. Hmm....
