Again, thanks for the reminder. I will add Hero, Hero Core and IJI to the list as well.
Symphony of the Night is absolutly essential. Great game. Metroid Fusion too. The last playable Metroid game.

Mentalepsy: Under Metroidvanias, try the Maze of Galious remake and Project Black Sun.
Project Black Sun is a title that I had on my watch list for sometime now, i should really give it a try on Desura.
Sorry for the stupid question but, by Symphony of the Night you all mean the Castlevania game right?

Also, Shadow Complex Fuck The World.
Shadow Complex is a great Metroidvania if you have an Xbox 360. I could be wrong but I'm wanting to think it's not on PC.

It's a shame that it's not on PC tho.

Not sure if you're really into roguelikes (the three you listed are .. at the out edges of the term) but I second the love for Crawl, stone soup edition or Lineley's version. Both are good.

I also like First Age Angband fhttp://angband.oook.cz/faangband/
Dungeons of Dredmor is a pretty good rougelike. Cardinal Quest and Desktop Dungeons are rougelike-lite.

Well you're right, the games that I posted initially are more like Rougelikelikes, but yes I am into traditional rougelikes too, specially the ones that are not ASCII only. But those are fine too so far as they make up for it with content.

Dice5: Can you elaborate some more on Symphony of the Night? Should I give it a try and how much do you recommend it?
SotN is basically the metroidvania, in that it was the first Castlevania to basically be a Metroid game. I haven't actually played it, but I can wholeheartedly recommend the GBA Castlevania games Harmony of Dissonance and Aria of Sorrow, and the DS games Dawn of Sorrow and Portrait of Ruin.
Also, Super Metroid (SNES), Metroid Fusion and Metroid Zero Mission (GBA).

All of these consoles have well developed emulators and are perfectly playable on a decent PC. Consoles are the home of the Metroidvania and some of the best are console only so please don't limit yourself to native PC games.

If anyone liked Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night and also likes cute bunny girls (^_^), then you have to play Bunny Must Die!.
The game is also on Steam Greenlight, if you like it, please vote for it ;)

It's a shame really that none of those games are on PC, I guess I could try and use an emulator but I'm not sure to whether or not consider it piracy. xD
Tales of Maj Eyal 4 is widely considered one of the best roguelikes ever so I suggest everyone who has any interest in the genre (or just RPGs period) check it out.

VERY good game. It also has some basic graphics too, so it's not just ASCII.

Castlevania + Cute bunny girls? Oh well, I guess that happened.

Well that's a debate that could derail this thread, so I'll just have to say 'leave it to your conscience'.

I'm pretty sure PS1 emulators can play games off real PS1 discs so if you find a second hand copy of SotN you're sorted (I see no piracy there).
