And be an apathetic bumplug like you? o.O
PC review codes are Steam codes basically 100% of the time (I don't know why this is, but it is), so people like the author are slowly building up growing libraries on Steam. It's not a stretch to imagine this reinforcing Steam being the "default" place. Chalking it up to conscious bias is easy, but it's likely a more subtle effect that slowly snowballs into a lazy assumption. Which could look a bit like "hey, I looked for Syndicate Wars using the Steam client and didn't find anything, so I'm going to just grab the first search result for it that comes up and link to that instead."

Not saying that's what happened, but I don't think a digital store so apathetic to allow countless asset flips out of sheer laziness is going out of their way to pay off writers.

Or maybe the whole thing is a racket and GOG forgot to pay their "remember that we exist" money. Dun dun dun.
Oh Noes PC Gamer is Biased *Rips up old copies of Pc Gamer(Just kidding or course)*

Speaking of old PC Gamer mags, does anyone here have the copy of PC Gamer that has the review for Descent in it? I've always wanted to see that.

You know, that might make a good thread.. people could scan and attach old PC Gamer articles they remember but haven't seen in years. Anybody Interested?*

*Would that fall under "fair use"?

Sorry I don't!

I would be surprised since a few of the games aren't on Steam. If that was true, every game listed would probably be available.

Valve are master at getting other people to do their work for free.
They most certainly didn't pay PC gamer, its all down to mindset and indoctrination.

GoG on the other had does have an arrangement with PC Gamer, which makes the exclusion of this link even more suspicious.
I'm guessing it's more of an oversight than something intentional. It still seems to me that GOG is more of a sidenote for the wider PC gaming audience. My suggestion would be to leave a comment on the story or on social media it bothers you.

Have done, unfortunately is very common for PC gamer to take Steam IS the PC platform.

seems this year promoting the underdog is no longer a concern

A guess on my part, but I suspect it's because Steam makes it much easier to generate these review codes.

strictly speaking gOg is the the third or forth largest DD site, it is a quite big player. If you want to champion the underdog, then you need to champion something like Fireflower, Itch.io or Gamersgate - these are the underdogs today.

Yes, devs can generate their own codes in steam, but they can't on gOg.

This is normal for PC gamer and most PC gaming publications. Steam is the standard by which others (including Gog) are up against. Gog has turned into a niche place where it appeared (in the early years when they were still Good Old Games) they wanted to cut into Steam's market share.

Sometime along the way Gog "appears" to have taken a step back from their original more aggressive efforts to steal market share.

Wrong way to think of it.
Well done you're 3rd place, but 1st place has 20 times the audience and an almost unhampered access to gamers and games.

Until a majority of quality indie and traditional publisher games are also available here in a timely manner the GoG is still an underdog.

That said, I need to start looking at itch.io more.
Considering most of the games have wikipedia links or dev site links, it doesn't seem like that big of an omission. The whole post just seems like stupid drama for no reason like "I need a reason to be upset. Oh look here is a list with one game that is not on steam but it is on gog...but no gog link!? Ahhhh!!!!" Seems like the internet has fully evolved to just a tool for people to get upset over trivial things, then provide a platform for it.

I agree with the general statement about the internet (and I'm super upset about it and happy to express it here), but not with your point on this subject. The fact that all these reviews have links to one specific shop otr to none, and that another shop is completely ignored even when more relevant, is a tad creepy. Very much in the "game=steam" mindset that seems to be pretty universal these days.

Will, in the next years, "steaming" become to "playing a game" what "googling" has become to "searching on the internet" ? The author of this article would probably not mind. It's little steps like these...
