A little while ago, while vetting my Paypal settings, i found an entry belonging to GOG under my preapproved payments.
I thought it was a little weird, but i just removed it.
Today i wanted to buy a game. When i went to pay, i chose Paypal and a tiny new window open to allow the payment. Nothing wrong, so far. However, it wouldn't allow me to use the existing funds in my Paypal account, which were more than enough to cover the purchase. Instead, it just asked me either for a bank account or a credit card.
I tried a number of times. I even tried to manually add funds to my wallet. Every time, it would ask me for a bank account or credit card. I contacted GOG support. They told me it would first try to use the existing funds before charging the bank account, and pointed out this particular sentence:
"I understand that if I have PayPal balance, that balance will be used first and that if my preferred payment method is expired or declined, PayPal will charge my backup payment method."
Only then did it hit me: GOG is trying to get authorization for a subscription, not a one-time payment!
This is very wrong. It's like going to MacDonald's for a burger and being asked to sign a contract. If i'm just buying a game, i just want to pay and be done with it.
Until GOG fixes this, i think i'll take my business to Humble Bundle - or even Steam.
