You can use proper names. We use people's names, so I can't see why not companies'. Your hint confirmed what I was expecting to be the answer. PaterAlf's brought me on the right track.

I swear this was weird. I was beginning to think "sheesh, can't these two give hints that will bring us on the proper track? Either that, or zeogold gave some obscure password." I have to apologize: the password is quite common, but it was indeed really hard to give 1 word hints. After knowing the answer, I see the first example in the OP "banana" would have been suitable, but had it been really put there it would probably have complicated matters more.

I was actually thinking of this super password from the beginning, hence my guesses: king, emperor and congress (and I was thinking senator, but that was guessed by the other team). Yet I didn't think of "republic". I could kick myself.

Nope, it was fine. It was probably even needed, considering how hard-pressed everybody was to figure this one out. I gotta say, half of these hints confused me and I was beginning to wonder if I'd have to step in and do something. Fortunately though, everybody was getting closer and closer and someone figured it out.
