Summer is a great time for fresh air, beaches, and vacations, but what if your vacation desires are something a little more… untraditional? What if you’d prefer to launch off into the cold of space and set out on an adventure?

Well, in that case, you’re going to need to turn to games! During the Summer Sale on GOG.COM, we’ve got a bunch of stellar space exploration titles available, all at amazing discounts as a part of the Space Games Collection.

To celebrate these titles, we wanted to take a minute to talk about some of our favorite ones. So, if you are looking for a new game to sink some time into, we’ve got you covered. Strap in, and let’s blast off!

Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity

Starting off this list is the excellent real-time strategy title Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity, where you take the lead of a spacefaring civilization that is embroiled in galactic war. Construct starbases, conquer your enemies, and once you’ve beaten them down, forge an alliance with them.

MOTHERGUNSHIP

On the opposite end of the spectrum, we have MOTHERGUNSHIP, a blisteringly fast bullet-hell game that has you mowing down loads of alien machines and giant bosses. What helps sets this title apart is the ability to craft your own guns with over-the-top parts to build the ultimate weapon!

Space Empires Complete Pack

Space is the perfect setting for strategy games, and with the Space Empires Complete Pack, you get access to multiple titles from the series! Explore solar systems, design your spacecraft, choose from multiple races to play, and more.

Shadow Empire

Here’s another strategy title for the list, but one adds a unique twist in that much of the content is procedurally generated, meaning each time you play will be a little different. Navigate a tricky political landscape as you look to make friends with both governments and cult leaders as you wage war on a grid-based battlefield.

X4: Foundations Collector's Edition

In this Collector’s Edition of X4: Foundations, you not only get the main game but two expansions, as well! This beautiful space simulation lets you fly plenty of spacecraft, add them to your fleet, and explore a living universe with a constantly shifting economy.

EVERSPACE 2

If you are looking for something a little more fast-paced, then look no further than EVERSPACE 2. This one is perfect for people that want a little bit of everything. Explore the universe, pilot unique ships, and blast away enemy ships while collecting loot. And don’t worry, there’s a great story too!

Master of Orion: Collector's Edition

Another beautiful space game, Master of Orion: Collector’s Edition brings all three games from the series. Choose from a variety of races and build technologies to gain an advantage across 100 different solar systems. War isn’t your only win condition! Outwit your opponents through technological and diplomatic victories, as well!

Deliver Us The Moon

The final game takes place a little closer to home - the moon. The Earth is in bad shape, and you’ve been sent to the moon to investigate why the colony there has suddenly stopped broadcasting. Explore the space station, solve puzzles, and get to the bottom of the mystery.

So there you have it, some of the awesome space-focused games that you can snag for a discount during the Summer Sale on GOG.COM! So whether you want to shoot things or just hop in a spaceship and explore, there’s something here for you.

What do you think? What’s your favorite space game? Are any of these great games catching your eye? Let us know down in the comments!
I believe Mothergunship is the one that GOG stream team veteran MemoriesIn8Bit worked on. Wonder if he'll drop by the thread at some point.

You remember that correct. I expect him to do the release stream on the GOG Twitch channel in the near future.

I contacted one of the devs back in 2018, and he mentioned GOG rejected the game and wasn't interested in trying again. I'm glad GOG un-rejected it (the game got over 500 wishlist votes), though I dunno how well it'll sell now.

I must protest, by all means ...
I was against any adventure and yet, somehow, I was launched into the Cold Vastness of Space.
Is there any particular reason GOG is unable to get Freelancer for a digital release? Source code lost? Microsoft not budging?

The latter. GOG has never been able to make a deal with Microsoft to release any of their currently-owned games here. There are games here that were originally published (or otherwise partly funded) by them, and of course a number of games whose publishers or developers have been acquired by MS since their GOG releases, but nothing from Microsoft themselves, and probably not much more from a lot of the previously [semi-]GOG-friendly company that're now owned by them (apart from any where the deals were already done before the MS acquisition).

gog2002x: Trinity is basically 3 games in one as the name implies. Entrenchment was the 2nd expansion (correct me if I'm wrong) which introduced the Starbase to the game and maybe a few other things that I can't recall. This gave the game the perfect balance as far as I was concerned.
[...]
But I had so much fun with Entrenchment that it's hard for me to go beyond it when it comes to this particular game series. I guess you could say I'm stuck in my ways. But keep in mind, this is just my personal perspective, nothing more.
.
I understand that, sometimes updates/expansions can change the "flavor" of a game, and even minor things can induce that feeling. And so modify your appreciation of the game.
Okay, I understand better ! In fact you like it because it's more "direct" in a way you like ! Thanks for explaining, I find that interesting.

Is Trinity less ressource intensive than Rebellion ?

Sulibor: I find arrival of Sins of Solar Empire: Trinity and lack of Minor Factions DLC hard to comprehend, to say the least. Still maybe there is a hope for it, I guess it is all in Stardocks hands. Thanks GoG (no irony here).
I agree and knowing that i won't be able to have the complete collection here prevents me from buying the game.

There's another big difference with Steam: there you can buy the complete package (Trinity, Rebellion, OST and all the DLC's including Minor Factions) for 20 euros. Here you pay more and for an incomplete package.

Again, GOG users treated as 2nd class citizens by a publisher. Not good, Stardock :S

trusteft: I get a 15% discount, instead of 60%, even though I own SEIVD.

Maxvorstadt: Same here.
I'm sorry, can you clarify, which game is SEIVD and which game gets an increased discount? Thanks!

The upgraded engine included in Rebellion does wonders in terms of texture resolution, so if you intend to play the game at high res, Trinity will definitely look more washed out even at its best settings.

Essentially it is just a pumped-up version of the same engine though, not something dramatically different. You can configure Rebellion in a way that would be on par with Trinity I believe even in terms of performance by tweaking the knobs (not maxing it out).

So the answer, I guess, is yes, but only if you enable the extra bells and whistles that the Rebellion engine comes with. Otherwise you're getting the same deal, or something very close to it.

It would be great if GOG manages to arrange the missing "Minor Factions DLC" for SoaSE: Rebellion.

I don't see a point to buy anything from Stardock Entertainment on GOG. if they refuse to support their products not even with the lowest effort.

I am really curious about The Space Empires I, II and III. Are they virtualized? are the original Windows 3.1 versions tweaked? or are they real ports for newer windows?

And which ones are the basic differences betwen the first three games? are basically engine upgrades of the same game or are they differentiated i more things?

thanks in advance, greetings
I am quite happy to see Shadow Empire here. It's been on my radar for some time, so I can try it now.

Space Empires IX Deluxe, which is on GOg since years. If you own it already, you get an additional discount on the Space Empires bundle.
