Summer is a great time for fresh air, beaches, and vacations, but what if your vacation desires are something a little more… untraditional? What if you’d prefer to launch off into the cold of space and set out on an adventure?

Well, in that case, you’re going to need to turn to games! During the Summer Sale on GOG.COM, we’ve got a bunch of stellar space exploration titles available, all at amazing discounts as a part of the Space Games Collection.

To celebrate these titles, we wanted to take a minute to talk about some of our favorite ones. So, if you are looking for a new game to sink some time into, we’ve got you covered. Strap in, and let’s blast off!

Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity

Starting off this list is the excellent real-time strategy title Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity, where you take the lead of a spacefaring civilization that is embroiled in galactic war. Construct starbases, conquer your enemies, and once you’ve beaten them down, forge an alliance with them.

MOTHERGUNSHIP

On the opposite end of the spectrum, we have MOTHERGUNSHIP, a blisteringly fast bullet-hell game that has you mowing down loads of alien machines and giant bosses. What helps sets this title apart is the ability to craft your own guns with over-the-top parts to build the ultimate weapon!

Space Empires Complete Pack

Space is the perfect setting for strategy games, and with the Space Empires Complete Pack, you get access to multiple titles from the series! Explore solar systems, design your spacecraft, choose from multiple races to play, and more.

Shadow Empire

Here’s another strategy title for the list, but one adds a unique twist in that much of the content is procedurally generated, meaning each time you play will be a little different. Navigate a tricky political landscape as you look to make friends with both governments and cult leaders as you wage war on a grid-based battlefield.

X4: Foundations Collector's Edition

In this Collector’s Edition of X4: Foundations, you not only get the main game but two expansions, as well! This beautiful space simulation lets you fly plenty of spacecraft, add them to your fleet, and explore a living universe with a constantly shifting economy.

EVERSPACE 2

If you are looking for something a little more fast-paced, then look no further than EVERSPACE 2. This one is perfect for people that want a little bit of everything. Explore the universe, pilot unique ships, and blast away enemy ships while collecting loot. And don’t worry, there’s a great story too!

Master of Orion: Collector's Edition

Another beautiful space game, Master of Orion: Collector’s Edition brings all three games from the series. Choose from a variety of races and build technologies to gain an advantage across 100 different solar systems. War isn’t your only win condition! Outwit your opponents through technological and diplomatic victories, as well!

Deliver Us The Moon

The final game takes place a little closer to home - the moon. The Earth is in bad shape, and you’ve been sent to the moon to investigate why the colony there has suddenly stopped broadcasting. Explore the space station, solve puzzles, and get to the bottom of the mystery.

So there you have it, some of the awesome space-focused games that you can snag for a discount during the Summer Sale on GOG.COM! So whether you want to shoot things or just hop in a spaceship and explore, there’s something here for you.

What do you think? What’s your favorite space game? Are any of these great games catching your eye? Let us know down in the comments!
I very strongly recommend Shadow Empire, it's an amazing mix of wargame and 4X.
It's one of my all time favorites now, and the dev is very active.
Beware though : there are some flaws, and the game is very "dense" and so it can take lot of time to play, and finally, it's not for everyone.

WinterSnowfall: While Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity is nice to have for historical reasons, where is the Minor Factions DLC for Rebellion, which would be much more relevant in this day and age?

Clarification: Rebellion includes all the features present in Trinity plus an upgraded game engine and additional DLC content.
Was going to say this about the rebellion DLC, I'm waiting it too here since so much time. And I thought that releasing Trinity would imply releasing this dlc too....I find this sad.

Thanks for the precisions about Trinity.

gog2002x: OMG Sins of a Solar Empire: Trinity is finally here. Entrenchment was my favorite one and I didn't really care for any other the other ones, including Rebellion (though I do own it here).
[...]
May I ask you : what's Entrenchment, and why do you find it so nice ?

[Edit : sorry for the second post instead of one XD]

I bet Deliver us the moon still doesn't allow for non qwerty keyboard layouts?
Nice to see Mothergunship on GOG!

Trinity is basically 3 games in one as the name implies. Entrenchment was the 2nd expansion (correct me if I'm wrong) which introduced the Starbase to the game and maybe a few other things that I can't recall. This gave the game the perfect balance as far as I was concerned.

I didn't enjoy the base game as much since I felt as though I had to leave a fleet behind or lose the system to a surprise invasion. But with a Starbase, I now had a way to defend against a small fleet or a larger one if I upgraded the Starbase.

This allowed a lot more freedom to explore and hopefully find more suitable planets to colonize before your AI opponents did. And if I got lucky, an artifact world lol.

The 2nd expansion was Diplomacy and I'm not much of a diplomacy person, though I'm sure those who liked it probably consider it their favorite since it included all of the previous content as well.

Some have said to try Rebellion and forget about Trinity and they may be right. But I simply didn't like the idea of Titans and the game now sounded too complex for me with all the additional factions. Remember, I'm not a fan of diplomacy. I do own it and will try it some day and maybe I'll kick myself for not trying it sooner. =P

But I had so much fun with Entrenchment that it's hard for me to go beyond it when it comes to this particular game series. I guess you could say I'm stuck in my ways. But keep in mind, this is just my personal perspective, nothing more.

To be honest, starbases are overpowered as f*ck, if used correctly. Which is why...

... the devs added titans.

Don't get me wrong, I'd characterize my playstyle as a "TEC tortoise", so Entrenchment was also probably my favorite expansion, but the TEC Rebel faction and their "Truce among rogues" ability is very, very appealing in Rebellion.

Just try Rebellion already :P.

P.S. You can disable titans before starting a game if you really dislike them so much.

A few more nudges and I may give in lol. Oh and "TEC tortoise" fits my playstyle like a custom made glove also. =P

For now though, I'm in the middle of a Divinity Original Sin EE gameplay. :)

"Space Empires Complete Pack"

No 'Starfury' - not complete series. =)
Anyway - great release !
Great to see that MOTHERGUNSHIP finally arrived. Took way too long imo.

high rated
I find arrival of Sins of Solar Empire: Trinity and lack of Minor Factions DLC hard to comprehend, to say the least. Still maybe there is a hope for it, I guess it is all in Stardocks hands. Thanks GoG (no irony here).

So what are the chances for someone like me who has never played a real wargame to be able to enjoy this? I've mainly kept away from them as the vast majority seem to be entrenched into their WW2 niche, and that setting never really appealed to me.

GOG.com: MOTHERGUNSHIP

On the opposite end of the spectrum, we have MOTHERGUNSHIP
Yo yo yo. I don't think this got its own release thread, and imo it deserves one. This game was originally rejected so I'm glad to see it finally show up for people! (granted, "everyone" may have already bought it on Steam at this point, but hopefully it's still financially worthwhile to bring)

I recently sent biz-dev some "reminders" about games and this was included, but that wasn't too long ago so this may have already been in the works.
Can someone tell me, what are the system requirements for MOTHERGUNSHIP?
Because nothing is written on the game's page.
