It's always bugged me that if you own the original version of a game, and then a "complete edition" or whatever comes out, that new edition is advertised to you as if you don't own it. Now this has gotten even more annoying, as when buying the new Neverwinter Nights expansion in the store I had to see the ad saying I don't own the base game, even though I do own it. I think I got it in some complete edition that isn't available anymore, so despite it being in my library I am doomed to see it advertised as an RPG I don't own for all time.

I know there are quirks in the GOG system due to not being restricted to a client, but I would love this one to get sorted out. I guess it's minor in the grand scheme of things, but it's an issue every sale or promotion. I have to look past the games I actually already own... sometimes 5 or more items including DLC... to find the games I don't own. I'm sure at some point people have accidentally bought a game they owned a different edition of and had to get a refund.

You need to train yourself as best you can to ignore such, I guess...it's the easiest solution and the best we have for now anyways.

Focus on big problems you actually can solve or get solved and less on minor ones and/or ones that cannot be solved easily for some reason.5 games only? Or are you understating a bit? I ask as it would take maybe 15 seconds or less to skip past 5 games and DLC.

NWN has the same issue on my account. All the DLC is marked as owned, while it seems that I don't own the base game. I bought the complete edition of the game when it was first offered, but now a slightly more expensive version of the "complete edition" is available on GOG, which rep[laced the old one. It's so annoying, and I kept saying I'll contact support to see if there's anyway they can fix that for me, but I never got around.

It's not about the time it takes, it's about the hassle of figuring out what's on sale that I own or don't own. The hassle of buying a DLC and the site tells you that you don't own the main game, and having to look into it to make sure you do.

There's higher priorities, sure, but a situation motivated me to complain about this one specifically. The existence of big problems doesn't prevent smaller ones from being bad.

I completely agree! "Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition" (exact same name and price as the one in my library) and "Baldur's Gate: Siege of Dragonspear - Digital Deluxe Edition" (own it as two game+soundtrack DLC:s but exact same content on sale as standalone game) rear their ugly heads at every single sale. I even get personalized email offers from GOG with these titles. And there are a few more titles like this that I can't bother to look up right now.

I've repeatedly had to make sure that I own these games and that they're not missing parts of a series etc. This takes some work to list through your library and the store content descriptions. You can't keep this stuff memorized when you have hundreds of games in your library and it's quite frustrating and takes a lot of time to verify with all the different editions and DLC:s out there.

The solution is mind-blowingly easy if GOG would just care to fix it: Let users mark titles as "Owned", the same way they are automatically marked as "In Library" when purchased, so that when you mark a title "Owned" you get the same check mark as when a title is purchased and in your library. By enabling users to mark titles as owned, we could also avoid annoying near-duplicates in the form of nearly identical editions that have maybe an additional soundtrack or art book included that's missing from our purchased edition and which we don't want anyway (at least not for the price of buying the entire package again).

Still, I think us goggers(goggites?) should focus on the issues that gog can and likely would want to easily solve if brought up, rather than ones brought up before that gog likely won't get to anytime soon.

Also question: Why didn't you post this to the blue who replied to the DLC filter thread someone else made? It might have brought it more to their attention there, at any rate, and other's commenting on that issue could've commented on yours as well or added their support for such. :)
============================= The problem with this(as with the current site implementations) is that filters/etc in the store section are not persistent/saved like the ones in people's libraries are. As such, even if there was such a filter it wouldn't help if it cleared each time people closed and reopened the store/catalog pages.

I can deal with the inconvenience if it just comes up while browsing sales (after all, I already have to look past all the DLC and special editions, too), but it could become an issue with "buy everything you don't own from this package yet to get a bigger discount" promos, in case GOG still does them.

Yeah, scanning sales and seeing games I own has always been a minor annoyance. It got raised to "complain on forum" level because I literally didn't understand why the sale said I didn't own Neverwinter Nights EE when I knew I did. I was like "did GOG take it away?"

Do you own the basic version only or the Digital Deluxe version? I think it might have something to do with the DD version now including Tyrants of the Moonsea if you buy it, while previous purchases did not. Not that this makes it any better, just a possible explanation.

Yeah that's what I figured out it was. I bought the complete edition before Moonsea, and that edition doesn't exist anymore, so the store acts like I don't own the game at all even though I do.

I'm not talking about store filters, I'm talking about the same "filters" used for marking whether a user has the game "In Library" or in their "Wishlist". Think of it as a non-GOG game library or as an anti-wishlist. I don't think this would be difficult to implement at all - the store already checks your library and wishlist for the store listing, let it also check a third list to once and for all solve the issue of these (near-)duplicates constantly reappearing and annoying the hell out of users. It's the least GOG can do for their customers...

I'd argue that the work required would be extremely modest compared to the utility. They would basically just have to copy/duplicate the code for the "Wishlist" (or "In Library") feature and do a few very minor tweaks to it - that's all. In fact, I'd argue that even a complete programming noob could locate these functions in the GOG code and copy and tweak them slightly without a problem. Near- zero time, money, and effort required! For instance, duplicate the "Wishlist It" function/feature, rename the duplicate as "Mark as Owned", place a link called "Owned" or "Non-GOG Library" below either "Wishlist" or "Games" in the user tab, and label owned games in the store with the text "Owned" using another color scheme to distinguish this label visually from "In Library" and "Wishlisted". And there you go, now everyone can mark anything they choose as owned and clearly see this label when browsing the store. Hours of unnecessary confusion and frustration for thousands of GOG users magically swept away once and for all!
