Truth be told I'm not even sure we are talking about the same thing. Your wording in a lot of your posts seems very odd to me.
Nirth: I searched the topic at Quora (amazing site!) and there are people there explaining the horrible details of social pressure in Japan. It's weird that hazing is legal but at least going to a therapist is more okay today than it used to be (not just Japan, probably globally).

Societal pressure is definitely a factor, but their culture also has a history with honor suicide and what not.
