Idiocy at its finest. I expect no less than Linux elite users. Well done.

Pax11: That may be, but let's be honest: the only reason to use Connect or Galaxy (for the sale and for purposes of this discussion), are to get something free. In fact, I see Connect as simply a big favor from GOG that they didn't really have to do. Of course, it's also a likely good marketing ploy.

But really, I don't understand all the outrage, as if people are somehow entitled to a gift. In this case, it is a gift with strings and if you don't like the strings, you don't receive the gift. End of story.

nightcraw1er.488: No, I think you miss my point entirely. It is nothing to do with the game free or otherwise. It is simply that those using Galaxy are being treated differently to those that don't. If, for instance, I were to remove the word Galaxy and put the word female that would be acceptable would it? No, of course it would not. Those of us who don't want (or can't - from linux user above) to use a client are being excluded because of this. This is something that has been coming from the time they released this client and it wont be long before it is client or nothing, just like steam.
Seriously, now you're equating your use or lack of use of a service with gender discrimination? I don't even know how to have a conversation about that, other than to say this a way for GOG to promote Galaxy. "People" are not being treated differently.
I see it as more accurate to say: You're angry because I got a 15$ rebate for buying a video card, but you didn't buy the card and want the $15 anyway.

HunchBluntley: Actually, on the Galaxy info page, one can click to switch between the Windows & OS X versions by clicking the underlined name of the other OS in the small text underneath the "Download beta" and "Discover our vision" buttons.
avatar
Maighstir: But only if the page detects that you're on either Windows or OS X. (If it detects that you're on Windows it shows the link to switch to the OS X download, and vice versa. If you're detected as being on Linux, neither is displayed.)
Yeah, I just found that out from someone in another thread. Kind of a weird way to do it, if you ask me -- if you're gonna let Windows users download the OS X version, you might as well let Linux users do so as well.

What you find any value in (such as entertainment or use of) is by definition not worthless to you, regardless of what you paid to get it. Worth/value of something is personal, not universal and not defined by what a pricetag a store put on it.

tinyE: You think that's bad, look at the badge requirements.
It's the actual existance of badges at all, I find disturbing.
I don't want stupid badges, I don't want anything any store client has to offer.
I hope I can remove all this stupid stuff, I want games, and nothing but the games.
Seeing all this so called XP and badge rubbish, puts me off buying the games, keep your XP and badges

No store client is acceptable to me, if a games got an online mode, it better have it's own in game client.
SPG's need no online connection at all, I get my games using only the offline installer.
I control how and when I get updates, and manually download each one.

I don't mind these things existing, as long as I don't have to deal with that crap.

So how

I have managed to get all of them (minus the checkout one which takes five days) without using Galaxy or Facebook.

well don't know how this posted, but never mind.

My point, was I don't want to be seeing badges, and I couldn't care less if I can get them without doing what it says.
I asked Steam how I could remove their unwanted bages, and I could not. They throw them around like confetti, hell they even "Level Up" your account WTF.

GOG has given me one badge, for making an account, I did that years ago, don't need a badge for it, I don't want it. Hope these disapeer after sale, as last thing I need is more clutter to my account.

I use games and forum, nothing else I need or want to see.
Site and Galaxy have no need to be the same, they serve different customers.

Uhm, it looked like to me that it was only during this sale... I looked again and it still seems that way. Maybe it won't be as bad as you are looking forward to having it? :-(

Hope not, it looks to much like the Steam badge system to be a coincidence, hence my concern it's a clone of that tiresome annoyance, I don't care how much Galaxy is a steam clone, but only if it's kept to Galaxy.

ZFR: What
avatar
nightcraw1er.488: If, for instance, I were to remove the word Galaxy and put the word female that would be acceptable would it?
avatar
ZFR: Bad analogy. The difference is, you can't become (or "unbecome") female.
A better one would be like the contest where you get a free game if you write a poem or draw a picture. In this case replace "draw a picture" with "use Galaxy".
avatar
richlind33: is the value of "DRM-Free" if it doesn't mean no bloatware and no spyware?
avatar
ZFR: a) No it doesn't. Bloatware need not equal to DRM.
(and as a side note, personally I find it much worse than DRM; I don't mind mild forms of DRM, like one time registration, as much as I mind being forced to use a bloatware client like Steam and Galaxy).

b) Even if it was, as long as you can log in and download an installer without using Galaxy, then GOG are still offering the game "DRM-free".
I'd be a lot happier if GOG supported downloaders.

"Free" is a psychological tool commonly referred to as a hook, and doesn't even exist insofar as reality is concerned.

They do support downloaders, but you'll have to configure them to use the forwarding url, not the cdn one.
Not at all a fan of this Gog Galaxy thing either, which is why I'm not using it. Don't care about asocial media functions and friends and achievements (!!) and all that stuff. But for the time being, at least, it's still fine to download games without that client. Personally I'm on Linux and have set up a download manager, so when I click on stuff it goes through that one, so I don't risk having to re-download 7GB or whatever of game files.

One of the reasons I don't use steam, and never will, is their mandatory client -- and of course all the DRM that comes with that setup.

When I want to play a game, I just want to PLAY that game. Not see who else are playing it, chatting in-game or whatever the hell people are doing. Talk about taking me out of the gaming world, eh? I want to delve in there, and not have achievements pop up every time I put on a different set of gear and meet a new person.
