Looking at the sale page, feebie is only for Galaxy users, nice! So much for the options eh?

Just to be clear: the stress-test giveaway is for Galaxy users. But that's kind of necessary for us to get the amount of traffic we need to be a legit stress test. The regular freebies don't require Galaxy. :)

It is kinda discriminating against Linux users, though...

You think that's bad, look at the badge requirements.
Is it really that hard to just install and uninstall it?

Yes, I understand you need to get certain levels to stress test it, but offering it only for Galaxy users isn't going to make those of us who don't use it suddenly change our minds, just means we wont get the freebie. You see why that precedent is worrying?

It's called "marketing"...
As in "Here, try this and get a free game, but if you don't like it, you don't have to use it!"
This sort of tactic is used to sell everything from food to cars.

Yes. Would you like me to send you a file that you only need to install to get a free game? It is billed as an "optional" client, the word optional means:
adjective
1.
left to one's choice; not required or mandatory:
Formal dress is optional.
2.
leaving something to choice.

This is not a choice, you use it or don't get the freebiie. It is no longer optional so remove that from the description.

And yes, it does mean everything in terms of the store, I buy here as I do not want a client or internet requirement like other stores. This is my sole reason for buying here.

Yes, didn't even look at that, not only do I need to install some client - optionally - I now need to sign up to twatter and fucking idiots book to partake in the other. Think I will save my money and buy some discs off amazon.

Um.....yes? Please? O_o
I mean, if you're offering, I would most readily and completely accept, assuming it's legal.
What reasonable person WOULDN'T want that? o_O

Besides, this game has been given away for free before.

You do realize the whole "badge" thing is literally just a thinly-veiled version of "Pay X amount, get X game", right? $5 gets you Spelunky, $15 gets you Gabriel Knight, and $30 gets you Dreamfall.

^ This.
I assume System Shock 2 was chosen for a reason - mainly to attract new steam arrivals that probably don't have it yet as a freebie (as they weren't here last time where virtually everyone here got it),
And maybe entice some antics to have a go at galaxy if this means they get a free game (to gift? do we get gift keys if we have it?).
If it makes you less agitated, I'm pretty sure it will be part of Gog Connect post the sale as pretty much after this there won't be anyone who doesn't have it on either Gog or Steam by now. and then we can all cross-play it :)

About the badge thingie, you only get 500 points for booking OR twating, and its pretty justified Gog will want to expand marketing of the sale so it's nice they chip in a little with the participating users. You as a non social has only to gain from them as it basically pays off in giving you better deals.
Please.. I don't have a fb account and it never came to my mind complaining I can't be a part of dozen giveaways every day. Not to mention those with no steam account..

try pirate bay or one of those, there is hundreds of those files. True, you computer will likely lock up after using it, but hell its free isn't it.

Nope, don't care what its a <insert what you want to call it>. The options are - Share on scoial medai, visit galaxy, use two step authentication. None of these I am ever going to do, nor do I have any interest any further in that deal.

I have no interest in Connect either, or social play with anyone. Not sure why the concept here is so difficult to understand. If you want to use all that stuff then thats fine, its all supposed to be "optional" <- this word right here. Its no longer optional. As for the badge thing, the other options either don't give you anything or require you to goto places I am not doing, so another dead end.

I realise that I am fighting a losing fight here. I joined this store as it offered the ability to purchase a game on the storefront and download via browser, and then disconnect. That is it the sole point of buying here. Every month that point is now being eroded away in favour of becoming more steam like. Time to find a new store.

Your computer will lock up? What.

In any case, just because System Shock 2 is free for Galaxy users, doesn't mean Galaxy is optional. If you want to, you can buy System Shock 2 in spite of the freebie. This has been done twice or thrice before (I missed the Aliens vs. Predators deal for instance, but not the Realms of Arkania one). I can play Realms of Arkania without Galaxy, even if the initial freebie offered it for us.

And none of it you have to do to get the XP. Just click the share button on the main page and you'll get the XP for it. No matter if you even have a Facebook account. And you only have to visit the two-factor authentification site in your account. You don't have to enable the feature to get the XP.
It seems appropriate. I mean, in the game, you receive a special interface lobotomy, and next thing you know, everything goes to the shits.
