Operation: Pinkeye is like a cutback Scottish version of the N64 classic Goldeneye by Rare.

It is similar in the style of graphics and a bunch of other things ... guns etc.

Are many of you aware of this game?

It is currently available at Itch.io, Steam, Zoom Platform etc ... cheapest by a few dollars at ZP.

I'm a huge fan of Goldeneye, so wouldn't mind getting Pinkeye and trying it ... but $10 AUD is a bit steep for what could be pretty awful potentially.

I've played it but not all the way through. It's pretty good, but I never played GoldenEye, so I can't help you with a comparison.

Certainly looks interesting. There does appear to be a demo on the game's website, which, I must add, also has a very charming throwback aesthetic.

I never understood the fascination so many have with Goldeneye. I've always found it janky and not very good. The relatively poor performance on the original hardware didn't help things either.

I've played better FPS before and after in solo and multi. *shrug*

Seems like similar thing with first Turok - there were FPS games on PC, that ate both Turok and Goldeneye on breakfast, yet Turok and Goldeneye are "amazing games" because they were released on Nintendo's console. And by some reason, this is especially strong amongst various US reviewers.

I don't buy explanation "but you had to buy mega expensive PC to enjoy those FPS games" etc. For me such "arguments" are irrelevant, when talking about overall game's quality. But whatever.

I guess it depends on how you come to it.

I was introduced to it watching some relatives doing the multiplayer aspect, which was quite a hoot, and after I eventually got my turn, I just got such a good vibe playing it socially, that I had to buy an N64 and that game. It proved to be quite the hit with family and friends, many of whom weren't gamers as such. So that game and Diddy Kong Racing, along with Mario Kart 64 changed the gaming landscape, which happened again when the Wii came out.

So to borrow a pun, it was a real game changer.

Sure graphics didn't blow you away, but they were more than adequate. And if you liked James Bond and especially that movie and the music and sound effects, the game was good enough to make you feel you were participating, despite the annoying timed levels and demands on accurate aiming etc, that were quite tough, especially for me who have never been good with a controller, but I managed to finish the solo missions and get the bonus levels and weapons.

The game made a huge impression on me, though it never knocked Quake off of top spot for me. I like games for a variety of reasons, and quality is often in the mind of the player and so quite subjective. Yeah I should give that a go.

Just "Pinkeye" back when it was first revealed during the 2020 or 2021(?) edition of Realms Deep, if I recall correctly, yes.

The aptly titled Agent 64: Spies Never Die (previously having gone by Agent 64: Spies Must Die) would be another one of these GoldenEye homages.

This game has 11 (eleven) reviews on Steam but suddenly over 300 people on GOG are interested in it? And with zero comments on the wishlist. Dunno but smells fishy to me :D

I thought maybe I'm just ignorant and that's some silent modern classic but doesn't look like. There are barely any mentions on the internet and like 4 videos on youtube with 300 total views.

That's simply how the community wishlist on GOG works (respectively, how it can get "played"):
you put a link to a wishlist entry in your comment and people will vote for it, regardless of whether they actually have interest in the game.

I know how wishlist works, lol. This numbers just don't add up comparing to other voted games. For example Vampire Survivors has 365 votes (maybe 400 combining all entries), Wartales has 435.
Games such niche simply don't have votes counted in hundreds on GOG wishlist.
