I just wanted to say that in using GOG I have been pleasantly surprised across the board. It's is rare when I go to a website and as I go through the purchasing process every step is solid, understandable, and nice to look at. I am particularly fond of the Account > Library page, which is so good at managing my purchases that I haven't felt the need to use GOG Galaxy.

Also, the game installers, and your incorporation of technology to allow older games be played on newer machines, is excellent. I am astounded how games like Age of Wonders run on my Windows 7 machine. Installing from the original CD from years ago and trying to set it up myself does not work near so well.

I work in tech, and know making a good website and working within the realm of backward compatibility is hard - really really hard. I appreciate all the hard work I see reflected in your site and technology.

Kudos. I wish you all luck and prosperity.

Glad to hear you're enjoying GOG also. It's overall a pretty awesome experience! :)

Yeah. Making the old games compatible with and runnable on current infrastructure is probably the real merit of GOG apart from excluding DRM.
As great as GOG can be for making some games work, they're not perfect, and there are a number of games that run poorly across the board. So make sure you research any troublesome games before you buy.
Removing the DRM is also a big part of getting the old (and new) games
to run more efficiently and have better compatibility with modern machines.

(especially the more invasive ones)

And preserving their longevity... for posterity. And for future gamers to demand
more of their game developers of their age!

Let’s not forget that!. heh...
Yes playing old games here at Gog is a masterpiece... What makes it so great is that you can play these games without drm, which means you own it! forever!
Yup, thks 2 GOG i not only do i get to buy & play my fav old games fr yesteryr DRM-free, they r also made compatible 2 run on new OS as well. Ok, most of them anyway. Keep up the gd work GOG & pls continue 2 bring us more classic games! =D

Your welcome. We like whipping GOG into shape ;)
Thanks for the support! Really glad you've been having a pleasant experience!
This is the most wholesome thread we've had in weeks.
I agree. You've done a great job, despite having to deal with some distrustful (or dare I write distasteful) devs. It's a shame that some games are left hanging and gets second treatment, but all in all I'd say I've enjoyed every moment of those that I've bought, with no problematic installs or crazy online-liquidation. As an example - I just spewed messed up rainbows and what not every time I installed King's Bounty (GamersGate) or Crysis from my DVD. Even on Linux these installs are a fresh breeze.

I'm praying that other games will get the no-drm installs well.

Now, let's hope this forum doesn't get overrun by cry-babies, ay? :-P

EDIT: I forgot the best part - Thank you!

I guess i grew used to both the removal of DRM and the tech work about making games running on systems that didnt even existed at their release
call me spoiled child
but, indeed, it's fair and right to sometimes re-acknowledge these because when you look at other digital gaming platforms, you cant say that at all
how many back catalog old games cash-in relying on pure nostalgia and compulsive collectioning habit would you find on steam that clearly DONT RUN at all ? (answer: too many)

Apart from that and the business aspect, the sheer amount of hours of testing and hacking must be tedious at times. At the same time also quite rewarding, I'd imaging, when it finally just clicks.
