jefequeso: Yeah, it's actually kind of weird how many feathers are getting ruffled by the idea that "GOG is pretty great." Maybe the DRM-free mindshare isn't quite as united as they appear :P

Tarm: Haven't you noticed? You're cool and smart if you voice clever critique about GOG.
It's one of the quirks of our community here and the quirks are one thing that I find interesting with this place. :)

Ah, if only most of the negative criticism were clever! ;)

That would be boring. Not so clever things are food for my amusement. :P

Wishbone: I think Steam perfectly exemplifies what happens when it really is just a matter of voting for a game in order to automatically have it released there, just look at Greenlight. The amount of crappy shovelware made by complete amateurs is appaling.

bredy12: Ok you're right. Steam is probably the best. I still like GOG though. I see great possibilities.
Uhm, okay? That was absolutely the diametric opposite of the point I was trying to make.

bredy12: they directly take the most upvoted additions and add them.
Wut? Have you actually seen the tens of thousands of votes the current top wishlist entries have and how many years old they are?

Wait. Are you King GOG and have you gone incognito waiting to hear the good words of your citizens?! 'cause if you are, oh boy...

GOG for president!

What? There are nothing more political than dealing in wishes and promises.

That's exactly what the wishlist entries are. A way to capitalize on what people want. GOG gets stuff, see who's wishlisted it, and then goes on to say "see? WE GOT THAT FOR YOU!". Only it isn't exactly like that. GOG gets what GOG can get and what would be profitable for GOG to get, then looks at the wishlist and says "WE GOT THAT FOR YOU!". Not that I'm complaining. I love GOG and the games on it. Most of them. And I'm certain some of the games I'm wishing for will eventually arrive on GOG. But not because of the wishlist.

So GOG is deceptive and lots of people fall for it and are happy.

GOG would make a really good president. Vote GOG! :D

Sure it is. EVERY retailer is deceptive. Otherwise they'd make NO MONEY AT ALL would they?

There is something like quality and that do sell.

GOG has quality. It's missing a lot of quality games, and it does have its share of junk games, but it's mostly quality.

GOG is great, and I like it very much. But I still don't understand its "too niche". For example, I saw this topic today:
Axiom Verge: A New Metroidvania Game
And it seems GOG rejected Axiom Verge, 700+ votes on community wishlist and top-rated Metroidvania.

GOG's "too niche"ism is strange.

Honestly, I like GOG not having every niche game on here but that game doesn't look too niche.
There are "nichier" things on GOG.
