bredy12: I have a 3 year old steam account, a raptr, an origin, a humble bundle, and there are probably more that are slipping my mind. Now all I have to say about GOG is that I can see them surpassing them all just because of the community voting feature. The community will always be happy because they directly take the most upvoted additions and add them. This makes the community a major part of the expansion of this site. Steam just adds what gives them money and EA just buys popular titles. GOG was made for the community so as long as scumbags don't find this site then GOG will be epic.
Wishbone: While it's great that you're happy with GOG, I'm afraid it isn't all as rose-tinted as you make it seem. Yes, GOG is great, especially compared to many other services, but...
For one thing, they don't "directly take the most upvoted additions and add them". This isn't because they don't want to, but it's more complicated than that. They can't sell a game without having a license from whoever owns the rights to said game, and some publishers just aren't interested in GOG, probably because of its DRM free nature. Other publishers may be interested, but it can take years to negotiate a deal with them. So it's not quite as easy as "adding whatever gets upvoted the most". The community wishlist is still an important tool for GOG, and helps them to know which games are likely to be received well here.
As for scumbags not finding this site, I'm afraid that's too late.
Much too late. It's a sad fact of the internet that scumbags are everywhere, and GOG is no exception. It's still the best community I've seen anywhere online, but scumbag-free it is not.
I suppose the community is still pretty good as internet communities go. It was just so much better back in the "Good Old Games" days. I suppose they needed to branch out to survive, but I still really miss that.
