Thanks for bearing with us in this thread. We’d like to announce that today we’ve introduced the addition of new installers, with implemented GOG Galaxy client.

Like Destro described it back in May, we decided to separate the „new" and „classic” installers, for your choice. So if you don’t care about the features like achievements or cloud-saves and don’t want to use GOG Galaxy, you can download the „Classic Game Installer", just like it was handled before. For games that have new installers, the default download view on „My account” will show the "GOG Galaxy Game Installers" - you will notice that, as it is visibly described in „My account” game view. To download the „classic” ones, just go to „Options" and choose „Classic Installers”.

The new GOG Galaxy Game Installers were added to +100 games - a selection of all games that make use of GOG Galaxy features. I'll post the current list of games with the new installers in a separate post.
Going forward, all new games that will use GOG Galaxy features, will now receive both GOG Galaxy Game Installer and Classic Game Installer.

Introduction of GOG Galaxy Game Installers doesn’t change anything in terms of keeping the Classic Game Installers up to date. As soon as we receive an update for any game, we will prepare an updated version of the classic installer, just like it was done in the past.

Thank you, but no need for me. I just find it weird when a first list isn't sorted. Additions to a list could be added on top or bottom (or even better, sorted and bolded), but having an unsorted list on introduction is a bit weird.

Not cool, not cool at all. I do not care about ticking a box (although a better alternative was proposed), the fact that I will have to download Galaxy every fucking time I download an installer is ridiculous. Will it be there only once, or in every .bin file?/s

Really not happy about this. At the very least, Galaxy installation should be opt-in, and the installer should download & install Galaxy on demand (as opposed to packing a more-or-less full Galaxy installer into every game installer).

That's what I'd really like to know. There's a world of difference between the installer downloading Galaxy (if the check box is left checked), and the installer including enough of Galaxy that it could be installed while offline. I don't want to download an installer for a 23-year-old game where 60-95% of the installer's (now bloated) size is crap related to Galaxy.

Luned: Turning off auto-updates is the very first thing I do when I do use Galaxy to download a game.

I usually only fire up Galaxy to download a new game, and if I don't, it wants to spend hours downloading updates for games I haven't touched in months before downloading the game I actually wanted to install & play right now.
Click the GOG button on the Galaxy window, select 'Settings', click features, uncheck 'Auto-update games'. Now Galaxy will ask before installing any updates.

Does this mean every time Galaxy gets an update, all the offline installers will have be updated/replaced as well? Folks in the "what just updated" thread are going to love that...

This should have been called out on since GOG Galaxy was first revealed as a thing.

Who wanted a GOG Galaxy? Who asked for a client? Are people that lazy and ignorant that they can't put thier installers in a new folder?

I think the lack of an opt-in is the bigger issue here, Galaxy is around 100 -150 MB and with compression may even end up being a lot smaller in the installer. In the grand scheme of things it's not a lot of data.

While I tend to agree downloading during install then unpacking would better, not everyone has internet when they install a standalone installer and GOG is probably including it for those users..

EDIT: But yes it can add up for those with large collections, I agree. Pointing it to download at the CDN would be a better option. You can stop quoting me and telling me this now. Thanks. :P
