Thanks for bearing with us in this thread. We’d like to announce that today we’ve introduced the addition of new installers, with implemented GOG Galaxy client.

Like Destro described it back in May, we decided to separate the „new" and „classic” installers, for your choice. So if you don’t care about the features like achievements or cloud-saves and don’t want to use GOG Galaxy, you can download the „Classic Game Installer", just like it was handled before. For games that have new installers, the default download view on „My account” will show the "GOG Galaxy Game Installers" - you will notice that, as it is visibly described in „My account” game view. To download the „classic” ones, just go to „Options" and choose „Classic Installers”.

The new GOG Galaxy Game Installers were added to +100 games - a selection of all games that make use of GOG Galaxy features. I'll post the current list of games with the new installers in a separate post.
Going forward, all new games that will use GOG Galaxy features, will now receive both GOG Galaxy Game Installer and Classic Game Installer.

Introduction of GOG Galaxy Game Installers doesn’t change anything in terms of keeping the Classic Game Installers up to date. As soon as we receive an update for any game, we will prepare an updated version of the classic installer, just like it was done in the past.

Edit: Pinned.

MrFortyFive: The Kramer is indeed the height of art. It takes a fine eye to appreciate it. He's an innocent orphan in the post-modern world.
I see a parasite -- a sexually depraved miscreant, who is seeking only to gratify his basest and most immediate urges.
He is a loathsome, offensive brute...yet I can't look away!

thomq: *sigh* As I pointed out earlier, of the 102 games on the list you provided there are only 8 that support Cloud Saves. Whoever you are trying to help will be misled 94 out 102 times: their Cloud Saves won't exist.

If you would have started with the current 48 games supporting Cloud Saves then your statement would have been believable. As it is now, you're just weaving a dream.
That's assuming cloud saves work properly, which if I read correctly in the forum is a huge leap in logic. The cloud saves are unreliable at best and downright not working at all on some installations for what they're supposed to be supported for... In other words, people will be disappointed no matter what.

This is actually impossible to imagine , the responses from gog to these questions is terrible, makes me wonder are westill in Good Old Games or its totally dead, even EA or Activision would have given better responses , I cant actually believe this GOG replying to legit users queries with std PR bullcrap answers.

fables22: To explain our motivations behind this a little better one more time - not all our users are as tech-savvy as our forum user-base. Some people just come to GOG, grab a game, and that's that for them. They expect everything to work from the get-go, without having to manually tinker with configurations, backups, etc. (after all, cloud saves were the most voted Wishlist entry with over 12k votes, with many people rightfully expressing their frustrations about lost saves with games that they expected would backup to the cloud automatically). With GOG Galaxy included in the offline installers, those users will get as good a user experience as we want them to have, with their installations updating, with their multiplayer working, and with their hours of gameplay saved and backed up. Hope this clarifies it a little.
I dont know if all that witcher 3 money made you guys blind or what but , are you telling us that just because 12k people wanted cloud saving in the games you are bundling galaxy for everyone ??

Before you piss off everyone who loves drm free , i suggest strongly that GOG create two clear Installers

A) NO GALAXY , JUST KEEP THE INSTALLLERS OFFLINE AND AS THEY ARE NOW , if we want it we will download galaxy and update

B) GALAXY infested installers this is for those non tech-savv users that you found magically without conducting any proper survey or votes, i mean this 2017 even the most non tech-savy people would know something called google search exists.....

Do NOT MIX UP THE BOTH MAKE EM SEPERATE OFFLINE INSTALLERS AND GOG GALAXY INSTALLERS.

Holy crap we might be loosing the last virtues this site had left.

It's kind of beautiful to see so many people on this forum uniting together on the same side here. I've never seen so many "high rated" posts in one thread before. It's just a shame that the opposing side is GOG itself.

Also a shame they don't give a shit that everyone is dead against it, and are going to go ahead and do it anyway. Not to mention it's a shame that their stated reasons for doing so can only be interpreted as them either being tremendously stupid and ignorant, or them deliberately lying to us about it thinking we are tremendously stupid and ignorant.

Like a lot of old users, I gave up on this pathetic excuse for a forum a while ago. Also, like a lot of old users, I'm slowly becoming more and more disillusioned by GOG as a whole and considering dropping it altogether. One bad decision after the other, GOG stopped being something that people could identify with. It's just Yet Another Online Store now, one that apparently aspires to be a copy of another.

I'm not back, don't bother replying. I just thought that this particular decision and ESPECIALLY the "reasoning" (only in quotes) behind it is so bad, that it warrants as much user outrage as possible and I'm here just to add to that number. I HAVE low rated the OP and I don't want it to be anonymously.

I don't mind using Galaxy on my gaming PC, but this, like so many have already said, is a move that is beyond dumb. Padding installers with extra data dumps, automatically opting in users, and telling us it's "for the greater good" is pretty insulting. I've shrugged my shoulders at a lot of the stuff GOG has done in recent years, but this smacks off some serious thoughtlessness on the company's part. People who typically download the setup files are by and large those who don't need or want Galaxy.

It really wouldn't surprise me if GOG went the "La la la! I can't hear you!" route, sticking their fingers into their ears while wearing a blindfold. =/

Have to add my voice to the chorus. Even though GOG has spent the last 2+ years steadily lowering my expectations, I'm still stunned. It's hard to imagine that this won't squander any remaining goodwill in this community. GOG can reverse themselves and make it right, and I hope that they do, but there are only so many times you can hide your true colors.

Yeah, I've ignored lots of stupid decisions in the past few years but this seems like a step too far for me. The minority is what made GOG in the first place, now they ignore them and start catering to the mainstream crowds of sheep by slowly becoming like every other digital game store.

Might cut my losses and run, haven't decided yet.

Look on the bright side, with the soon-to-be lack of options for DRM free gaming on PC we can start saving money not buying games and working through our backlogs :)

So, I won't just have to make sure to opt-out of GOG Galaxy installation each time I install a new game, but also waste disk space on my NAS for over 1200 copies of the GOG Galaxy installer?

What's next, a full round of CAPTCHA (mark all images containing 'cow-pies') to go through each time someone tries a manual download?

Sure GOG Galaxy is optional, but you're putting quite some effort into making not using it as annoying as possible...

The time when I bought everything here I could afford just to support the cause is long gone thanks to many "Good News" already but I bought some games again after they made a bunch of Linux packages not too long ago which surprised me in a good way for once.
After that I thought things might go a bit up again but now this...

I'll have to take a closer look into the DRM-free alternatives now and make HumbleBundle my first place to look again unless they row back and drop this terrible idea since my appetite here is quite ruined...

Edit: "Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky, The" was updated but I didn't get any notification whatsoever, not even directly in my library. Are the notifications inside the library Galaxy exclusive too now?

Yes they are galaxy only. Its apparently a "bug" not pre planned, which will be fixed "soon".

fables22: Don’t fret, nothing’s changed with our approach to GOG Galaxy being optional, which is why you can easily uncheck the GOG Galaxy installation within the game installer settings.

FrodoBaggins: Please make the standard non-galaxy installations the default option, and then if you want to install galaxy, you have to tick the box. ( :
This.

As an example:
The Java installation also has an optional yahoobar installation. The box is usually marked and once I didn't pay attention and accidentally installed that damn yahoo shit. Man, was I pissed.

Just wondering but did GOG recently hire one of the marketing team members from Denuvo?
As GOG's statement to this galaxy inclusion with the offline installer seems so similar to the typical Denuvo statement saying that Denuvo is not DRM but an antitamper mechanism.
