Thanks for bearing with us in this thread. We’d like to announce that today we’ve introduced the addition of new installers, with implemented GOG Galaxy client.

Like Destro described it back in May, we decided to separate the „new" and „classic” installers, for your choice. So if you don’t care about the features like achievements or cloud-saves and don’t want to use GOG Galaxy, you can download the „Classic Game Installer", just like it was handled before. For games that have new installers, the default download view on „My account” will show the "GOG Galaxy Game Installers" - you will notice that, as it is visibly described in „My account” game view. To download the „classic” ones, just go to „Options" and choose „Classic Installers”.

The new GOG Galaxy Game Installers were added to +100 games - a selection of all games that make use of GOG Galaxy features. I'll post the current list of games with the new installers in a separate post.
Going forward, all new games that will use GOG Galaxy features, will now receive both GOG Galaxy Game Installer and Classic Game Installer.

Introduction of GOG Galaxy Game Installers doesn’t change anything in terms of keeping the Classic Game Installers up to date. As soon as we receive an update for any game, we will prepare an updated version of the classic installer, just like it was done in the past.

Edit: Pinned.

BLOATWARE!

At least steam tells you upfront that you have to use their client. From that standpoint they're more honest than gog, maybe they are more deserving of my money too.

I might understand if the games Galaxy was bundled with required the gaming client for online multiplayer. The problem is that a whole bunch of games on that list don't even have multiplayer!

If a game requires Galaxy for multiplayer and had an unchecked by default box with a little note saying 'install Galaxy - needs Galaxy in order to play online' I would be fine with it.

But install Galaxy by default?! No way in hell!

Cool, opt-out bloatware in every installer! GOG becomes better with each day! :(

fables22: As for the option being opted in as default - after careful consideration, we've decided to go with this because we believe that it's easier for an experienced user to uncheck the box than it would be for a new user to figure out how to turn the feature on.
People who are downloading individual installers are precisely the people who don't want Galaxy! It's the norm for gamers to install a client if they want it. People downloading individual installers are already trying to opt out of Galaxy.

This is hassle that you are explicitly aiming at people who are clearly trying to opt out of Galaxy. The given reasoning is nonsense.

She did say there is a box to uncheck galaxy installation in the downloader options.

Yeah, it really does seem like they're trying tenaciously to shovel all of it back into the bull's arse.

Keep digging, we can still see it!

Auto-selected Galaxy installation is not cool.

And as to the included Galaxy installer - is it actually a full installer or just a downloader?

amok: Not really, all it needs is a good and clear description:

"Check this box if you would like to install our optional Galaxy client to help you manage your games and keep them easily updated without any hassle"

Or something in that vein....
I'll definitely make sure this feedback gets passed on - and thank you for providing it!

tinyE: They already made that fucking announcement when they fucking took our fucking notifications away without fucking letting us know and then had the fucking nerve to fucking tell us it was their fucking plan to fucking change it fucking later so that all the fucking people who don't fucking use fucking Galaxy will fucking eventually get their fucking notifications back, because after all, Galaxy is totally fucking optional.
O_O That's a lot of "F" words!

But I agree. For me, it's not even Galaxy so much that bothers me. I just feel like GOG is treating me like a dumbass with all if these "good news"-type statements.

fishbaits: The piss taking continues.

So those of us that want nothing to do with galaxy, are now having it bloat everything we download?
How much does this increase the file size of every download?

You're also setting it as default under the lame excuse of "well durr, someone can't figure how to install it, despite it being advertised all over the site...".

And what's with hiding the list of games already plagued with this? Put it on this site, not on google docs where some of us can't get to see sod all.

Sheesh, you're really determined to lose customers...
We're aware that there might be a size issue with the new installers, and we're working on it to make sure the installers are much smaller so that this is no longer a problem.

Yup, but it's checked by default - which is stupid. Dumbest thing GoG has ever done so far.

fishbaits: And a larger multi-player base for those of us that do that.
Faster updates.
Actual updates, not full re-dl "patches".
Also actual updates, where steam still has many newer updates & some gog games haven't been touched in years.

And so on and so on.... :/

Had to use another browser, here's the list (that should've been here in the first place....) so that you don't have to:

tinyE: Hey dip shit, not everyone has unlimited bandwith and a reliable connection.
He is talking about the benefits of choosing Steam over Galaxy, given that Galaxy is being forcibly crammed down our throats anyway. I'll admit his point didn't come across too clearly and he could have phrased it better, but it seems obvious to me from your reaction that you interpreted his post as lauding the benefits of Galaxy, which he wasn't.

Some of you have been living in some sort of alternate reality or just being really naive if you didn't think stuff like this was coming down the pipe. As a business, you don't market the hell out of this piece of software that has been years in development if you just treat it as some side-piece. You don't promote the hell out of it and put it all over your website if it's just some little add on.

They can say optional as much as they want and by the purest definition of the word it probably will always be optional. But don't be fooled for a second that it is their hope to have a majority of their users in Galaxy. This is just another little nudge to encourage that end goal.
