mchack: Thanks for explaining what you meant by replacement behaviours. :) It's an interesting read, though I can't quite compete there. But taking up running again would be enough for me.

Anyway, I did not buy a single game (any store) in the whole of april :) So that's something!
So gave up smoking in Febuary (check) Gave up buying Games in March (check) next up: giving up eating so much sweets, start running again, etc... Bright Future indeed. ;) (let's see how it turns out)
You're welcome! It's not a competition among us members, the only one you're competing against is yourself or more accurately, yourself from yesterday. The direction is forward, just like running. It's great that you started running again because that activity rewards you by releasing "happy hormones" for real effort - unlike game purchasing.

And all the other stuff you're doing: Awesome, sounds like you're right on track! The more things you make an effort to improve upon, the higher the risk of relapsing (because you're simultaneously depriving your brain of so many ways it got used to seeking cheap rewards) but as long as there's an overall improvement, that's the most important thing.

One must beware of not letting one relapse turn into a series of relapses. That's where the setbacks are, not in the singular relapses. In that regard, a spreadsheet for tracking relapses might be more useful than a simplistic day counter. The latter might trick you into thinking "I'll just relapse 3 days in a row and then reset" whereas a spreadsheet makes those 3 relapses more visible.
Not bought any game since December 2015. Almost half a year gone by.
Haven't bought a game since yesterday.

Although in April I only bought one $1 bundle and one $1 game. The bundle included Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons which I played and finished with my daughter, and we both enjoyed and was certainly worth more than $1. A pity the devs have been bought to create VR games, it's less likely that I'll be able to support them in the future. The game is LEGO Star Wars for Android, and it got me to research playing Android games on PC, and I might try Nox sometime. My son loves the LEGO games. So I already got some enjoyment just learning what the state of the art Android emulation is.

(I just realised that the Android version might not have the co-op mode of the PC/console versions. May be worth buying the PC version for that if he likes the game.)

I've been pretty good lately, think I only bought one game in the past few months or so. But I'm worried about the Steam Summer Sales...
Now that the kids are playing more, I went back to spending more on games. Bought several LEGO games recently for $15.
It's not an addiction. I can quit anytime I want.

Now where's my damn credit card?
Made a mistake in checking the the GOG main page and found out that I am eligible to the 85% discount of HARD RESET REDUX.

I am tempted because I don't know if this loyalty discount will last, but on the other hand I am clean on GoG since 12 Feb. I have survived Vampire bloodlines, X com, Star Wars, Torchlight 2, Banner Saga 2, Don't Starved, Grim Dawn, Dying Light, X rebirth, Master of Orion and don't want to end my streak when I survived against so many close call.
Hopefully I'll learn my lesson about buying games I don't intend to play immediately.

One thing is GOG giving System Shock 2. I bought it but never played it. Waste of money.

Then there was this bundle I bought at some site, only activated one key, the site is gone now.

I really should learn something from this, but I'll probably need some more re-enforcing to really change my behaviour.

It's a permanent discount!!!
It last's until game is gone.

....
Too true.

*clears throat*

Soo, for that matter, anyone not having Dreamfall Chapters yet?
(had a bit of a relapse ;) ... :/ .... :( ... stupid really.)
My god, another sale... I think i'll relapse :( help me please !
I have found a new method that seems to do the trick for me: before I think about buying a new game I have a quick look at my current library, the shock of there still being so many good games that I haven't played yet has kept me in line.
I have not bought a single game from the last few sales, despite there being plenty of games that interest me.
'These games will still be around in the future, even cheaper' is what I also tell myself.

Going back over my purchases, I realised that I hardly buy games for myself, rather I buy with the kids in mind. Bought quite a few games for the kids in recent months, but for myself I only bought the Humble Narrative Bundle on 31st May for Her Story and before that Dead Synchronicity for Android on March 26 (both ~$1 purchases). More before that, but I guess buying for the kids satisfies my buying habit.

Very good advice, I always feel bad when I look at my library full of unplayed games. But then I see a recent game for less than 5€ (or a Good Old Game for less than 2€) and I just can't help myself... :_(

Damn, there's always that lingering thought though," what if the games are removed from GOG by the time I'm ready to buy them", also, "what if there's not gonna be a discount on this game again for a long time to come".
