awalterj: I also can't subscribe to no.2 which is why once a commission is decided upon, I usually don't show the work until it's done. Making changes to a drawing/painting late in development ranges from very difficult to downright impossibru, especially in media like watercolor where you can simply forget it.
I wanted to respond to this earlier. Anyway, I think that iterating and having working results along the way is applicable to software in a way that can't be applicable to anything else. It can, to an extent, be applicable to other modular forms of art, such as 3D modelling, in the sense that you can show part of the result and change it independently, and if there's feedback based on it which would affect other parts of the work, that could be beneficial.

The difference with software though is that, because of its interactive nature coupled with the number of things that can go wrong, it's naturally iterative, in addition to being modular. Even if developers doesn't subscribe to an agile methodology, they would have iterations of testing and fixing bugs. The benefits of agile is that you can localise the decisions better. You can get feedback more quickly on how well things are working both technically and in terms of interaction with the user.
By the way, I just realised that I haven't bought a game in over a month, Kickstarters excluded. (For most Kickstarters I pledge less than the game tier anyway, but a couple would get me games. Still, it's money for supporting their development, so I don't count it as game purchases.)

Great tip :)

@ALL
A great programm to categorize your steam library is Depressurizer!
It makes it possible to manage Categories more easily and to automaticly categorize your games based on Community and Store Tags.
It needs 5 minutes to get into the whol UI but after that it is pretty great.

I bought a game yesterday, Nightmares from the Deep: Davy Jones. But it's the good sort of game purchase: I played the demo, decided that I wanted to continue it, then bought the game. So it's not just going to my backlog, I will actually play it. That does mean that my other games will have to wait even longer, but I still think it's not that bad.

So 5 weeks between buying games. Let's see when the next one will be. For some reason I feel it won't take as long.
I had a feeling that there's going to be a bundle I won't be able to resist.

Which bundle are you threatened by? We can't help you if the threat isn't specified. We need to know the enemy, and all that.

I just successfully resisted a sale on my number one wishlisted game (over at Steam) which is Valiant Hearts: The Great War, a 2D platforming/puzzle adventure game with an amazing art style and a super captivating trailer. I became aware of the game after reading <span class="bold">genkicolleen</span>'s wonderful review in the Games Finished in 2015 thread.
The game was on an attractive sale over the weekend and I almost bought it, but then I realized that the game requires Uplay, a whole other level of nasty DRM. I have no issue with using Steam for stuff that isn't available here but if I have to install yet another client that many people have reported having problems with? That's a no go, even if the game looks absolutely fabulous. I don't know whether to be happy that I resisted or whether I should be sad that I'm missing out on a game I'd quite surely enjoy, plus it's about WW1 which isn't featured in games all too often.

PS: thanks ET3D for keeping this thread going, part of me has wished it to die away but that's the part of me that is unresponsive to therapy, in other words the dark side!

Also, I read every post in here and I feel obliged to reply to everyone which means I'm many days behind with that, unfortunately I currently don't have enough energy to write all the replies I ideally want to.

Last game purchase: March 9th

I figured I'd try and hold off from buying games again after the Double Insomnia thing got finished. (not counting the RoTT freebie, of course) It's been a week, so I'm off to a start.

Steam sent me a mail telling me that my wishlist items HoMM 6, Child of Light and Valiant Hearts are on sale. The first two are easy to resist, the last was a bit harder but I managed.

The bundle I caved in to is of course the latest Humble one. There's Android in the bundle title, so it's not surprising that I was tempted by it, since Android is my gaming platform of choice. Bought the BTA (I already bought SRR for $10 when it debuted on Android.)

I quite enjoyed HoMM5 - I played the demo for six and it was just missing something in gameplay. Better off just replaying 3 or 5 I'd say.

Valiant Hearts does look very interesting, thanks for the mention. It hadn't been on my radar.

HoMM 6 was easy to resist because I've yet to play much of HoMM 5 or Tribes of the East. Child of Light was easy to resist because I ended up buying it on the Xbox 360 a few months ago. Valiant Hearts is interesting, but I resisted it on the basis of Android being my gaming platform. Unfortunately the price on Android is higher so I probably won't buy it anytime soon. (Or rather, fortunately. I have enough of an Android backlog already.)

I enjoy buying games so I won't stop, but I'll give an advice for those who want to stop buying games thoughtlessly: Don't buy games if you already have plenty of games you haven't played yet, even if they are on sale. For example, I bought Lichdom: Battlemage on Steam during the Winter Sales 2014. Now I am a bit sad, because this game appeared on GOG last week. If I didn't buy that game back then, I could wait and buy it here DRM-less. The only think that I comfort myself with is that I bought it with 66% discount, whereas on GOG it was "only" 60% off.

Yeah, I think that pretty much sums up the problem.

Adventure games and Android "PC" games on sale always click my "need to buy" button (not all of them, but if they're reasonably good and up my alley I find them hard to resist).
Just learned about another terrible temptation, coming in June. LEGO Jurassic World is just the thing to buy for a 5 year old, after all. I mean, it's not like I'm really playing any LEGO games with the kids, but it's dinosaurs, you know...

I think Ubisoft is doing a very good job in helping soften my addiction with Uplay. I hope they will stick to it for a long time :D
I too must buy some games when the colorfull promos are up.

Thankfully, I've got my addiction under control and now it's down to a frequent habbit.
