You don't seem to have Fatale listed in the standalone games list. It would seem to be a fitting addition.

I know, I kind of lumped all Tale of Tales games together in the other section, the only on having a mention of its own is The Path. Could take each of them out, but may be to large then. On the other hand I have more room now in the new thread. Will consider doing so.

aluinie: nicee list that is a lot of hard work you have done here.
Thanks, but lots of the credit goes to those who helped finding the games in the previous thread.

Have just discovered Vesper.5. Will let you know first impressions when I am half-way through, in about 50 days or so....
Interesting - from Proteus EP news section:

"Steam
As you might have already read, Proteus is going to be launched on Steam* later this year. We don’t have a launch date yet, but hopefully it will be around the end of October. This might slip to November, but either way our plan is to try and launch on time and then do a “1.1″ update later rather than delay it. (In the longer term, we have some loose plans for a 1.5-ish update sometime in 2013. This will be based around some modding and remixing ideas)

(*Everyone who has bought the game via Humble or Fastspring will get a Steam key.)

Thanks for your support as always – it’s going to be a busy few months!"

It was in the Greenlight section, but not there any more. I also think it did not have that many votes, so not sure how it works now....
If you include To the Moon and Girl with a Heart of, maybe Home would fit your criteria for experimental narrative, too?*

Personally I'm not really convinced by it, but that's the risk of being experimental, experiments can fail. And games off the beaten track don't always appeal to the masses. ;)

* SPOILER, kind of:
(The gameplay is very simple, just walk around and examine things and sometimes, very seldom, make a choice - strictly narrative though, no apparant in-game consequences. There is no in-game explanation of the story, the game relies on the players using their imagination and interpreting the story in their own way and then posting their thoughts after the playthrough on the developer's website. It looks like Lone Survivor, but it's a different game, It's meant to be an experiment in story-telling.)

I think Blast Chamber should be added to the standalone games list. It was certainly experimental, as well as extremely fun, especially in multiplayer. The singleplayer mode should probably be categorized as a puzzle platformer, while the multiplayer mode is more like a fictitious competitive sport.

The game takes place in a series of cubical chambers with various platforms, walls and other features. The interesting thing about them is that in places along the corner edges between the four surfaces making up the floor, ceiling and walls of the chamber, are arrows pointing away from the corner. If you go to a wall and put your foot on an arrow pointing up the wall, the entire chamber rotates 90 degrees, so that that wall now becomes the floor. Any players and loose objects on the level are rotated along with the chamber, and then given over to the care of gravity.

In multiplayer, there was nothing quite so satisfying as rotating the chamber just as an opponent was about to score a "goal", making him drop the "ball" when he smacked into the new floor.

Thanks, never hear of this one. It will need to go in the RIP section for now, I might try to chase up legal version later if possible.

agreed, Home should be included, it is an experiment in narrative.

Edit: Fringe games do generally not have mass appeal, no, a lot of them are just to strange. or just downright unplayable. However, it is the experimentation which I like, though I sometimes do not like the actual outcome. I think that a game can be extremely bad, but at the same time extremely interesting, and it is experimentations like this which drives the gaming world forward.

PS. and in other news, it seems that Code Hero can be moved up from the In Development section.

Ah, right. I'm pretty sure it's not available for purchase anywhere at all, so the RIP section is indeed where it belongs.

There is actually a shareware demo of the game: http://www.classicdosgames.com/game/Blast_Chamber.html

I know, that's how I know about the game. I got the demo on a magazine cover disc back in the day, and had a blast (pun intended) with it ;-)
slightly updated most things.

Tengami seems to be going of the list, it now has the statement "Tengami will be released first on the iPad. In addition a release on iPhone, PC and Mac is planned"... not a good sign, but will see what happens. I was also tricked into thinking (damed clever pr people) that "Where is my heart?" is coming on PC, but apparently it is not so I have removed it.
By the way. I notice that Unmanned is not on the list. It should be shouldn't it ?

yes it should, thanks
Have you considered adding Space Funeral? (In case you're not familiar with it, it's a JRPG made with RPG Maker on the outside, but it's using its own graphics and is really weird, original and ingenious.) Some of thecatamites' other games might also be worth a look. I think Murder Dog IV is praised for its originality and weirdness, too, but I haven't come around to playing it yet.

Middens is another RPG maker game that looks like it could fit the criteria for your list; I haven't tried it yet.

I have not heard about Space Funeral, looks interesting. I will put it up there and give it a spin. Middens is already on the list :), the art there is very good and original.

By the way, I just remembered an online game which I do not remember the name of. The mechanics at the surface is very much JRPG, but you are fighting your own family with stats like confidence and ego. The story is about being gay and confronting your family with it, and I think the creator is Japanese. Does anyone know which game it was? it has been bugging me a few days now.
