SimonG: What I really don't like is the "everything was better in the past" attitude those interviews show.

Stuff like "Proper Infinity Engine expansion packs and not shitty DLCs"

Are you f'cking kidding me? Like TotSC? Which would even be mediocre for a 8$ DLC nowadays. That is what you are aiming at?
The example they always talk about is ToB though, not TotSC, right? Nostalgia tends to forget about the bad examples and focus on the good stuff. In this case, one can therefore hope that they have all the positive aspects in mind and will design a spectacular game (bug-free might be a bit too optimistic).

nijuu: Mate. Games WERE better in the good old days..PROPER expansions and not the bullcrap DLC (in most cases these days). Not sure why ur upset...
Like those great story driven packs for C&C 1? Or the ST:Elite Force expansion? Or the map packs for every other shooter?

Yes, of course everything was better back then....

And in proper "old school style" we will have to wait for a month for the patch to be released. And then the old savegames won't work.

How do I miss the old times ...

If this ends up being like, say, Heart of Winter, that'd be more than adequate, IMO.

Yeah, keep wallowing in "the good old days" because you were the guys who shipped freaking betas in a time with no internet. Great, no I have to wait a month and buy a gaming mag to get my game running properly. Yeah, good old days indeed.

I'm really considering to drop below 100$ due to that attitude ....

I'd take "bullcrap DLC" like Lair of the Shadow Broker for Mass Effect over a "proper expansion" like Tales of the Sword Coast any day.

Putting that aside, you don't see anything ridiculous about trying to get people to preorder an expansion for $100+ before the game it's supposed to expand even exists?

You would rather play Mass Effect over Baldur's Gate?

Having just finished Baldur's Gate, hell yes I would rather play Mass Effect over Baldur's Gate. Why not? Better characters, better gameplay, interface, and controls, more interesting game world, no second edition D&D rules mucking everything up.

The more I read about this, the more they sound like a bad politician. They try to appease everyone and please every side.

"We will cut taxes AND reduce the deficit! How? Magic!"

The biggest blunder imo is that they go with the most boring setting imaginable. Especially jarring as Obsidian was always great in creating unique experiences.

For me it looks like they are trying to feed of the Baldurs Gate mainstream market instead of creating something truly special. Heck, if they would have simply said "Hi, we are making a game, give us money" I would be more inclined to support the kickstarter then now.

Where is my Alpha Protocol 2? (I've read the rights are with Obsidian, not Sega)

Everytime. BG 1 was the blandest most to the mass market catered RPG of all time.

BG 2 was a bit better, though.

One is an RPG, the other is an action game?

So? Why should we care about the label on the box?

It is about quality in game design. I don't care if they make a freaking interactive fiction game as long as it is good.

An action game where you can do a great deal more role playing than in the role-playing game, funnily enough; and being a role playing game doesn't seem to excuse any of the faults I listed, so ...?

It depends what you call "RPG"; when it come to character building/creation ME is a lot closer to CoD than an old school CRPG. (or even DAO)
55,000 backers, The Endless Paths of Od Nua dungeon has gained another level :D

StingingVelvet: Thanks a TON for posting these Coel...
No worries. I'm unable to work right now, so have lots of spare time on my hands. Figured I may as well use it to keep people updated/informed on the project. Of course, it's not all altruism. I want this thing to be awesome and the more funding the better. So if these updates get people to pitch in more money, I see it as a win for what I want too. :)

Kickstarter is a nostalgia pump, not really surprising.

This+1. Its the point of KS. Allows people to be creative and create games many gamer's want - and it a lot of cases niche games and games we don't see much anymore due to publishers bending over and looking for the almighty $$$ way over creating a good game.
