ashwald: It's been funded. Took about 27 hours.
Would have been 7 hours if they had announced Steam and non-Steam versions right from the start XD

Wow that was quick for full funding, when I checked last night it was at about 83% (so in less than 10 hours it went to just over 100%)

oldschool: Amazing. I wonder how much will be raised by October 16th. Odd thing is, there still isn't an update from Obsidian. I guess they're still in shock. This project has the potential to beat the Ouya.
I'd be really surprised to learn they didn't expect that outcome. I admit that it still is much faster than I originally thought, but I never had a single doubt that the project would get fully funded much before the deadline.
The only question is how high the amount will go at the end. Will it surpass Wasteland 2?
The great thing about Kickstarter is that we can go directly to the people who love to play RPGs as much as we love to make them.

Plus, we don’t have to make compromises with a publisher. We make the development decisions, we market the game, and we don't have to answer to anyone but you – our fans.

Starmaker: ... but they want their fans to make compromises and answer to Valve. Wut.
This, and I will keep this thread in my favorites and the kickstarter page on my radar to see if they change their stance regarding steam.
continuing my last post:

YOU SEE THIS EA, THIS THING GOT FUNDED $1,000,000 AND STILL MAKING MORE THERE IS STILL A MARKET FOR HARDCORE, COMPLICATED TRADITIONAL RPGS!!!

The thing is that EA earned ~ $ 200,000,000 on ME3 so this number is not an argument for them.

Obsidian just Twitted... Er, Tweeted that an update will be coming very soon. Said they definitely didn't expect to get funded so quickly, either.

EDIT: Also, here's J.E. Sawyer singing a thank you song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-nUBcY6jQ8&feature=youtu.be Hopefully they can add songs from Tim and Chris as stretch goals. ;)

LOL
Here's a thank you song that was promised apparently if the funding was successful. Came a bit earlier than they expected. :D

Edit: Damn it.... You didn't include that link you stinking ninja!

Edit edit: I really must refresh the thread before posting... :)

Mwa ha ha. *Poof*
This one looks pretty dead in the water. I wonder what Obsidian are going to do to turn this seemingly hopeless endeavour around?
Cool article on Forbes regarding this particular kickstarter project as well as DRM, kickstarters in general, and a possible indicator of the future of the gaming industry.
For all those who don't like Steam, did you read the actual FAQ lines at the bottom of the Kickstarter page?
How will I get my digital copy of the game?

We are still exploring the idea of offering number of options, but one of those is definitely going to be Steam.
In other words, it's not necessarily going to be Steam exclusive. Exploring other options is likely to come after being funded and they know they're going to make the game, and is then dependent on contracts being worked out or whatever. All of that.

Not that I know whether other options will pan out, but Obsidian is not hell-bent on being Steam-exclusive just to screw with people. >.>

Well, it's funded, so maybe they can tell us now.

It grates on my nerves to support Obsidian in this, these guys are so fucking terrible at releasing buggy games, I shiver to think what their games will be like without a publisher forcing a certain amount of quality control. This is the reason they're getting 20 bucks instead of 100 or more.

Nergal01: Obsidian will hopefully use their own Onyx engine. It's stabile and should be ideal for a project like this.
I will quote the kickstarter description:
We are asking for more than a lot of the other Kickstarter projects and that’s because we are not only making a game, we are creating a whole new world. That means a new RPG system, entirely new art, new characters and animation and whole lot of lore and dialogue.
Hopefully that means an entirely new engine, IE 2.0 or whatever they will call it. If I recall wasn't Onyx used for Dungeon Siege III? It might've worked fair for a linear action-RPG but for this kind of project, hopefully something more inspiring will be made.

When Hidden Path did this (despite actually stating they would be developing a new engine and all new assets) people had a serious problem with it.. funny how expectations are shaped by our preferred devs.
