It started yesterday. It's been somewhere around 24-26 hours.

I don't have a Steam account, and I don't want one. 'nuff said.

You nailed all the things that annoy the hell out of me.

Still.. I must confess that it is hard for me to not get psyched over this.

Same thing for me. I sent them a PM asking about a DRM-free release. Hopefully if enough people ask about it we'll get some word on it.

I asked if the disc would be DRM-free (or rather, "not dependant on any kind of activation server for playing singleplayer or installing", was the exact wording I used), but haven't received a reply. Then again, it was Friday and I guess they might wait until Monday to take care of the brunt of the questions and messages.

March 23, the day when Brian Fargo of Wasteland 2 accidentally said the s-word*, was also Friday. The project management went into full damage control mode. Brian Fargo made an appearance that very day clarifying he misspoke, apologized for any misunderstanding, and published a tldr blogpost two days later on Sunday.

That might've cause a slightly bigger reaction web-wide than simply not mentioning "DRM-free" though, I believe many who would prefer a DRM-free copy (that is, would accept DRM but prefer not) might just assume that the disc version will be such.

That said, I'm not putting anything into that project until I get confirmation that a DRM-free option will be available (Linux and OS X are apparently being "looked into", and that's good enough for me on the multiplatform front).

It's been funded. Took about 27 hours.

Let me explain my point of view:

I don't have a steam account and I'm not going to make one. That's a principles thing: when I buy a game I want a game, not a lease of that game. So if the distributor thinks that he could gain more thwarting piracy with steam than would lose from people who don't like Steam, OK. It's your game, pal.

But with kickstarter you're asking people money BEFORE THE RELEASE OF THE GAME!
So, I have to trust you that you'll release the game, that will be great, bug free, the best thing since sliced bread... but you don't trust me enough after I pay the game TWO YEARS IN ADVANCE, before seeing a simple screenshot of an alpha, and release it in Steam. Just in case I pirate it?

For the distributors and indie developers who release their games in Steam, and offer a DRM infested final product for my money, I politely say: no.
For the people who don't risk nothing because they will release a possibility of a great game paid by the backers who put their money now and will have to wait two years to see if the promises are fulfilled, and they are treated like pirates? I say: go f*** yourselves.

Amazing. I wonder how much will be raised by October 16th. Odd thing is, there still isn't an update from Obsidian. I guess they're still in shock. This project has the potential to beat the Ouya.

I'll treat this game as a spiritual successor to Dragon Age:Origins who was a spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Plainscape:Torment,Icewind Dale
