What happened? I was playing Obduction which worked fine by the way, and the next day the game wouldn't even open. Instead I received a 'fatal error' message. This after I got to the final chapter. I feel cheated.

Any help or commiserations would be greatly appreciated.

No information to debug. What operating system, how are you playing it (i.e. galaxy or from explorer).
If it was me I would start by talking to GOG support:
https://support.gog.com/hc/en-us/categories/201400969

I would also check the game sub forum, to see if others have this problems. And you can also google to see if there is info on this problem (I found a steam page for instance as result 1).
