Outrage over requiring a login to use optional features of an already optional piece of software? Really? Don't we have better things to get pissed about these days? Nothing about this prevents you from using the graphics card or any of its features and capabilities, its just the features and capabilities of GFE that are behind a login barrier and there are plenty of alternatives to GFE that can do all the same things, usually better and without a login.
DosFreak: Never understood the purpose behind Geforce Experience:
I don't need a wizard over my game to configure graphics settings.
Game streaming? No. I have a PC and I sit in front of it the way it's meant to be played.
Driver updates? Yeah I think I'll manage. I've managed to update my drivers myself since 1991 thanks.
System specs? Much better programs can do this.
Video recording? Nope. I'm not an egomaniac and I don't make $$$ off playing my games. Frankly, it's only really useful or necessary if you already have additional Nvidia devices, like a SHIELD tablet, and plan to do things like stream to it. Without GFE, you can't stream games to the tablet or use the tablet's gamepad on your PC. All the other features of GFE, like driver updates and such, are just "ease of use" features for people not terribly familiar with PC gaming in the first place. For the vast majority of people, its a waste of time and processor cycles.

This is being blown out of proportion if you still don't need an account to download drivers. It's just another thing for the DRM haters to use as an exuse cut their nose of to spite their face and refuse to use yet another product. If you want to play/use something, play/use it.

You heard that right. In order to use your GPU's features from now on, you have to go online and sign up for an account to access such features of your GPU. I'll leave you to be the judge. The way I see it, it's DRM on one of the most important pieces of a PC, the GPU.
...
sigh
....
No, I heard that wrong. The "GPU's features" works as intended with or without Experience.
If you want a software that does other things, then it is another matter.

That thought occurred to me. It's completely separate from the actual GPU drivers and doesn't do anything truly important, does it?

Depends on whether or not you consider "game ready" drivers important. I sure as hell don't. lol

It sounds like the same bullshit razer tried on. It's ridiculous that people are supporting attempts forcing people to sign up to this.

I deleted Geforce Experience long ago because sometimes it would hang or crash. I just install the drivers I need the old way. Everyone else should do the same after this announcment. I will still continue to buy Nvidia, but I won't ever install that software again, esp. after finding out about this.

Are those actual driver data, or just sets of "optimized" settings for specific games?

It's the almost monthly updates with drivers that are optimized for the newest games being released. If you don't care about getting weekly updates and just want to update yourself whenever, then no, it's not important at all.

When you look at the state that games are being released in nowadays, How likely is it that someone will release optimized drivers on launch day? lol
