So just look at a list of top rpgs and select something which sounds interesting. First person, may oblivion or morrowind or falliout. Isometric, baldurs gate, ice wind dale, neverwinter. Dragons age 1 is a great game, get it on sale. Divinity series has lots of high points. I personally didn’t get on with original sin, but the first game divine divinity it a great hack and slash and divinity 2 also. Then there is more old school grid map ones, grimrock, lands of lore, eye of the beholder.

Thanks
Don't cost too much... Well when there's a sale on D&D games (and one just happened) you'd find the Baulders Gate series and other games, probably 80% or better off.
Sacred/Sacred 2 are really big and when on sale fairly cheap. (and Sacred is $1.99 right now)
Tales of Ma'jael is free, though it's more rouge-like and less RPG but contains RPG elements.
In the end i will say, wait for a sale. Though you could always acquire games other ways.

I've only touched the 2nd game. The 2nd Edition aspects are a bit jarring after you haven't played a while, not only that i never could fully get into it. And the intro game section you have to pretty much quick save/load alpha strike and do very well in order to progress in those games.
Be better if you could go through an intro dungeon til you're level 10, THEN get captured or whatever.
Though if there's a save editor maybe making a character with really good stats and a decent level to start might make it more enjoyable and less tactics/rouge-like.
