I kinda agree with OP. Most threads are just incessant forum games or some crap like that, very little in terms of news or some interesting discussions on various game or just general stuff in general.

forum games are sacred here, sadly
and they blob the first page with their constant spamming
+ some use this forum as their personal twitter feed like talking about their future pc setup and such nonsense

Just that something is marked as 'in progress' doesn't mean that GOG is working on it!

Tbh I like both the silly misc threads like forum games and such, and the more serious discussions.

That said:

We would likely have more serious discussions, but GOG staffers now more or less clamp down on good discussions (even civil ones) of certain topics if they dislike them or think they shouldn't be on the gog forums. This usually leaves mainly only the misc threads like forum games and the like.

(Many years back the forum was much more lively...with multiple threads of note being made every few days...then GOG got some bad PR on social media and the like, and decided to crack down on the forums and their communications with the user base)

So if anyone wants to blame someone for the current state of the forums(lack of content & users posting), i'd blame the higher management that made up the forum rules and which makes the staff enforce them. :|

Indeed. I can remember the 1990s, things seemed a lot more boring then...wish it was still like that :-( Since about 2011 or so I've had an increasing feeling that the entire world is getting more and more unhinged.

Well there's likely several reasons for that: a number of the regulars probably are a bit sick of the topic by now(i mean anyone talking about it in general) and repeating/rehashing the same things over and over, or are somewhat apathetic since talking about such doesn't really seem to change much.

Whoever are the bosses of the forum staff, and then the bosses above them, of course.
(specifically whomever came up with the rules and/or makes the forum staff enforce them)

I only see posts about videogames... the news with offers and new videogames to sell.... the forum games...

It's a forum of a videogames store.

People complaining all day long... many happy with their games not complaining...

In the past people would make threads about whatever, and as long as they stayed civil and everyone was mostly nice to each other they were allowed to remain. People could talk about more things, and as a result the forums were a lot busier and more fun to post in.

Then the company had some PR(public relations) problems due to bad social media posts their staff made and other things about 4 years or so back, so the upper management clamped down on what could be posted here to a high degree.

As a result, the amount of posting decreased sharply here and many long timers either left or cut back on what they posted.

(now I agree some control had to be put on the forums, but imo they went a bit overboard with it)
