mistermumbles: I love the setting, the plot and the characters... unfortunately, I gave up after 10-15 hours in due to an overworld that is too big, bland and boring as well as severely repetitive combat with some at best mediocre mechanics. I swear, character placement is practically useless as everybody ends up in a big clump every single time.
Such a shame. =/
I admit the combat system isn't that great and can be somewhat repetitive (though there is decent variety in enemies and spells in my opinion). It's a bit annoying that you can only place your own characters in the two bottom rows, but placement does matter to some extent (basically I always tried to shield my spellcasters/ranged fighters with melee fighters like Tom and Drirr).
But I can understand that you got somewhat frustrated with the combat and the large overland maps...can become a bit too grindy. However, I still liked Albion's combat better than that of e.g. Fallout 2 which really bored me.
