SuperRigger.808: I haven't seen many older games being brought to the storefront in a while. Mostly the same new early access titles that steam gets.

What's going on that we're not getting any more classics? Quarantine, anyone?
are you only interested in games that aren't available on Steam?

The number of old games GOG releases per year fluctuates, of course, but unless you're super restrictive in your definition of "old" (like Canuck_Cat, above, seems to be), it hasn't changed very significantly over the years (up until the last time anyone cared to keep close track, at least), and has even risen dramatically from one year to the next in some recent years. It's just that they're also releasing so many other, more recent games that the "classic" releases (and I use that term as loosely in this case as GOG and the publishers do) can kinda get drowned out. Same number, lower proportion.

(It also doesn't help that one or two of the dedicated "old game" publishers that have been releasing stuff here lately -- Ziggurat, for example -- tend to like to dump as many titles into the store at once as GOG will let them. This means that they might release something like two dozen games in two or three months, but these will be released in bulk: maybe 3-8 games on a given a release day, but with only perhaps 4-6 such "release" news posts spread out over that several-weeks-long period, hurting visibility for these releases somewhat.)

A couple of my more in-depth explanations of this perceived phenomenon (the first linked post is rather old now, but mostly still true):
Why GOG releases old games so slowly
GOG and competition in the "old games" market

And, for good measure, here's a hacky way to filter the store catalogue by release year (not specific years, just preset ranges). The results still won't be comprehensive -- it won't show remasters or re-releases where the date given on the product page is the re-release date instead of the original one, for example -- but it's a starting point in your search for recent "classic" releases. :)

example: games from before 2010, sorted by date added to the store (newest first)

Leroux: How do you even manage to keep track of what is released, since GOG moved the news section to the very bottom of the mobile-friendly scroll down page and doesn't allow to go back in time for more than a few days. If they'd release a new OLD game today, I might not even notice the news post at the bottom of the page before it's gone again ...

Though I did happen to spot the latest new OLD release per chance, which was Witchhaven 1+2, just when the summer sale started.
OMG... I had NO IDEA that these games were added! INSTABUY! But just to emphasize your (all) point(s)... GOG has some serious problems with, simply, announcing new games and alerting the populace!! (sigh)
Actually, GOG added many old games this year.

I think that the problem rather is that it looks like GOG is not working on bringing old games here with difficult IP situation. Last time they did was Blade Runner, iirc.

Now they release only games that don't require work - mostly from Ziggurat or other publisher. Which is great, but I'd like them to try to reach Sony about Psygnosis games (and I think that's what might be happening), but also Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman'/Terry Brooks/Spider Robinson/Piers Anthony about Death Gate/Shannara/Companions of Xanth/Callahan's Crosstime Saloon. And Frederik Pohl about Gateway and Gateway II.

I'd like to see something big in old games - Dungeon Master or Dune. Or original Prince of Persia.

this was already proven(by me) false the last time this popped up like a month ago

anyway probably there are not any more good old games worth playing that doesn't have a crazy rights holder afraid of bringing the game here
you can ask gog to bring a game here ,but they cant do anything about if the owners dont want to

Sorry for the snarky replies you got, but you started your thread on the wrong day. The 'GOG doesn't release enough old games anymore' threads are usually started on Thursdays. Almost every Thursday. Since 2012, when GOG officially ceased to be "Good Old Games".

They should just change their name to SGSBMOMG: "Sometimes Good, Sometimes Bad, More Often Mediocre Games". ;)

I hear you buddy. I've noticed the very same with movies.

It seems whenever I go to cinema, there are usually just new movies. I hardly ever see old movies there, just new ones. You never see e.g. any Chaplin or Laurel and Hardy movies on cinemas anymore, only new stuff with color talkies and shit.

There's just so much more charm in a black&white movie with a mere piano playing in the background and you actually have to read the dialog, but I guess today's whippersnappers with their Snapchat and TikTok can't even read anymore, so that is why all movies are colored talkies nowadays.

What is worse, quite often those are movies that are also shown on other cinemas as well! Why would they show movies that I can see on other cinemas as well? They should concentrate on old b&w movies that NO other cinemas are showing!
A few that have been (semi-)confirmed or are likely to arrive/return soon™, from the top of my head:

First Samurai (1992)
North and South (1989)
Wages of War: The Business of Battle (1996)
Hammer of the Gods (1994)
Phantasie series (1985-1990)
Second Sight (2004)

wolfsite: At the beginning of the Summer Sale we got Witchaven 1 & 2 and before that we got Sabre Team and Shadoworlds, Corridor 7 and 2 or 3 other classic games before that so we are doing pretty decent in terms of classic game releases.
but those last ones suck and gog isn't getting them but third parties that leapfrogged gog, limiting gogs original USP.

I wanted to slump my face on desk again too, but apparently there's a hole there now... due to all the wear and tear :P.

The good news is that I found the perfect theme song for this thread: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BURM7l6_pvg

It's all about more classic game releases, of course!
