Not at all, but he just got here. XD Can we have a rule that you need to me a forum reg longer than a week before you start telling us off? :P
Nah, on the whole I don't agree. Nostalgia can also be a good, healthy thing. Everything newer is not ipso facto better. Evolution is change / adaptation to fit in with the new environment, it is not necessarily improvement because the new environment is not always better. Tyrannosaurus Rex was not necessarily tougher than Giganotosaurus just because it appeared later ; it may well have been tougher, but for different reasons.

Some older games are still better than their newer "equivalents". For instance, Baldur's Gate is still better than Dragon Age or NWN. That's just my opinion of course, but it's not just a sentimental, rose-tinted or bitter / resentful opinion, it's based on a whole slew of things about BG which makes it a better game than Dragon Age or NWN. Many others will disagree and they're entitled to their opinions too. Nothing about Dragon Age or NWN superseded, improved on or even matched anything about BG or the other IE games (in my opinion) ; the two newer games were just created with a newer environment in mind - a worse environment (in my opinion).

I do agree, however, about all the biased reviews (on e.g. Metacritic) which exaggerate how good or bad a game is and are often unfair, irrational and based on fanboyism or nostalgia (or indeed ANTI-nostalgia). They are annoying and skew the review scores, which doesn't help the would-be purchaser. But a game does not necessarily become worse over time ; if it's a good game it's a good game for all time (in my opinion). In summary, I think nostalgia CAN stink, but the idea that newer is better usually stinks a whole lot more.

Hey, I got away with it when I first found you in this place.
Plus, he hasn't completely overstepped his boundaries. The name of this thread IS "nostalgia stinks", after all.

All jokes aside, yeah guys, let's try to avoid the name-slinging, or at least save it for the political threads, ok?

I didn't tell anyone off, if you're going to get sensitive over the word "turd", then maybe the internet isn't for you? All I'm saying is it's more appreciated when people make intelligent responses, rather than something that boosts their cybernetic egos.

Or maybe you could simply respect the opinions of others without calling them unintelligent just because they disagree with you.
And also, kindly obey rule #32e of the GOG forums:
"Thou shalt not provoke the tinyE, and if thou doest so, prepare thyselft for a tremendous backlash and the slinging of many insults."
Don't forget the other corollaries, such as #32p:
"Thou shalt not provoke the Puzzlemaster, and if thou doest so, prepare thyself for the groaning from many puns and slinging of many puzzles."
This in itself originates from #32a:
"Thou shalt not provoke the Sachys, or there shalt be consequences, such as the flinging of poo and the staining of many fabrics, forsooth."
Which itself arose out of #31:
"Hark! Those who speaketh in blue tongues doth carry the God-given right of YE BANHAMMER!"

You know, I really need to control myself on these edits. I think I'll stop now.

No, somebody can make a disagreement in an intelligent way, without latching their self confidence onto said opinion. It's a free internet, (theoretically speaking) But that's exactly why I don't go to Steam Discussions anymore. One of the most toxic places on the internet, next to IGN and Gamespot. You literally can't get any help from anyone without them making some edgy remark.

Aaand calling the people who disagree with you fedora-tipping turds wasn't toxic, somehow?

I call it like I see it. Nothing benefits me from that, nor relates to my ego.

I dunno, that sounds a mite like the pot calling the kettle black to me.
Er - in your case, um....the banana calling the lemon yellow?

It's nothing like that, because I have no desire to puff my chest on the internet.

One where somebody complains about the game catalog.

Way to endear yourself. :P
His other post was "super edgy" too. :)

(the thread he started where he made fun of hipsters by telling how he bought a new game with a $90 edition and all those that played BG1 were, yes, "fedora tippers.")
