Maxvorstadt: Well, now I`m confused. You`re posting from germany, writing an absolutely nonsense sentence in english... I thought you`re a german with minimal english skills.
Are you trying to drive me crazy?
avatar
groundhog42: I'm confused as to why you'd say that, as the sentence makes perfect sense to me (in English).
Well, to me the english sentence makes absolutely no sense. I hope we`re talking about the same one?

I am getting very interesting if slightly incredible speculation in English

Ich bekomme/sehe eine sehr interessante wenn nicht sogar unglaubliche Spekulation auf Englisch.

slightly bedeutet geringfügig, wenig, ein bißchen.
Insgesamt macht der Satz doch keinen Sinn!

You could substitute words like "but", "yet" or "though" for "if", in this case. Also, "if slightly incredible" should properly be set off by commas or dashes or parentheses or something: I am getting very interesting -- if slightly incredible -- speculation in English.

Hm, shouldn`t it be "interested" instead of "interesting"?

Joar, nicht aufgepasst, falsche Bedeutung von incredible genommen :D
"Ich bekomme/sehe eine sehr interessante aber etwas unglaubhafte Spekulation auf Englisch"

Ah, I see the problem -- "getting", in this case, is shorthand for "getting an impression of". He wasn't saying he was getting interested, he was saying that, looking at the linked page he was referring to, the impression he was getting was that the "information" was interesting, but somewhat unbelievable. :)

Aha. Still the sentence looks weird for me. Ah, english, the book with seven seals. :-D

English, the language where "lead" rhymes with "read" but not "read", though the opposite is true for "lead". See if you can figure that out ;)
Hm, with the Witcher promo going on, I'm kinda skeptical that any Bethesda games are coming this week. >_>

I'm sure that CD Projekt wouldn't want anything to steal the thunder of Blood and Wine's upcoming release.

Why not? Are you saying that we won't be getting any releases for two weeks? I find that extremely hard to believe.

Oh, I'm sure there will be releases (already had one today, even if it's only in-dev), but I could see GOG holding off on some high-profile multi-releases that would warrant banners of their own, like the last Bethesda releases.

Well, tomorrow we'll know more. I'd sure be happy to be wrong about this, don't get me wrong.

I`m sure I read this before, but now I read it again! :-D

In this case, the word "interesting" is a modifier for the word "speculation". It is not acting as a verb or as a gerund (a present participle used as a noun), it is an adjective describing what kind of speculation.

Yay, English grammar. :( ;)

English has grammar? Shocking!

But thanks for the explaination. :-)
