john_hatcher: I would like to know what happened to GOG‘s request to Hello Games. Some blue said, that they were (still are?) in contact with Hello Games to talk about the problem.
avatar
Breja: Yeah, sure they're talking about it. Actually, thanks to my many sources, I have the last conversation written down here:

GOG: Can you believe it? Some people still believe we're a DRM-free store >laughs like the Joker<
Hello Games: Oh man, that's a good one. Anyway, we've got some new content coming up.
GOG: Great, we'll just run it by the Chinese, and see if they approve.
Hello Games: I think you meant to say you'll run it by "many gamers" >laughs<
GOG: >laugh< yeah, sure, that's what I said, right? >laughs<
true story :P

Gersen: It's an answer from 24th of September 2020, it's not like it's any new, if anything the post from the Gog mods is much newer than that.
Well, I'm sorry this answer is three month old. Than again, I had to wait about 100 days for an answer to my initial request, which means, even if I had responded immediately, I wouldn't have gotten a newer respond by now - and honestly it doesn't sound like it would be any different from what I got. It sounds pretty final to me that this small addition on the bottom of the page suffices for them.

I for myself just stopped buying here, installed the epic launcher in a Wine environment on my dual-boot Linux (I don't want this shit in my main environment) and get games, which are drm free (as in "after you installed the game by launcher, no need to use the launcher or internet to play"), there. This works pretty well and supports the developers, because the store charges is only 12% instead of 30%. Only hassle is to fine out, which games run without the launcher, but you can ask this stuff in the Epic forums.
What to say; the good thing in capitalism is: The market regulates itself.
Aren't you supposed to be able to get some Quicksilver from those monster infested freighters now? I haven't tried it myself, but vaguely remember seeing that in some patch notes. I can confirm that running through the Nada/Polo missions yields a few hundred quicksilver, but it's not enough to buy the fancy stuff.

Anyway, I agree that it's a troubling development but since Hello Games has been marketing NMS as something of a lightweight MMO--and customers were *very* pissed off about no multiplayer at launch--there may not be a mutually agreeable solution here.

edit: If we're getting in the business of improving the NMS single player experience, I'd just like to note that I would REALLY like to rename "Explorer" to something else. Changing one text box to be editable and/or a config file shouldn't be hard.

You could for a while but that was time limited and Quicksilver is now no longer available on the derelicts.

Ultra lame, then. I was really hoping that those freighters were gonna be the official workaround for people who aren't interested in joining the digital hive mind.
And what about two mods, for the problem?

https://www.gog.com/forum/no_mans_sky/quicksilver_for_offline_players/post1

I made a mod so that Players who prefer to play offline can get quicksilver, too:

https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/1814

You can now get Quicksilver by doing these things:

KILLING DRONES
- 5% Chance to get 5 Quicksilver by killing drones
- 10% Chance to get 5 Quicksilver by killing Quads
- 20% Chance to get 10 Quicksilver by killing Walkers

NEXUS MISSIONS
- 25% Chance for Mega-Nexus Missions to give you 250 Quicksilver as Reward
- 20% Chance for Normal-Nexus Missions to give you 125 Quicksilver as Reward

DERELICT FREIGHTERS
- You can find Quicksilver in Derelict Freighters again (same Chance as in Halloween Update)

You can use this mod together with my Offline Shop - Mod to unlock things like the living Egg for the Quicksilver Trader:

Ulf2016:
This is a great alternative already, thanks.

I just wish we didn't have to fiddle with modding due to locked content for BS reasons. :/
Are you able to spend your quicksilver offline or is the entire "wallet" and the respective shop offers only available when you are online?

When playing vanilla offline you can earn quicksilver (but rather little) and the qs store is there but with a very limited supply of cosmetic items.

alt3n1ty just reported, that Hello Games seems to have removed the DRM in one of the last updates. https://www.gog.com/forum/no_mans_sky/melody_of_the_egg_no_gog_galaxy/post45

Can someone please check and confirm? That would be great news indeed!

Very positive news if it can be confirmed.

Now, if only GOG would further push to rectify the other longstanding grievances that user have with them to show that they actually give a shit.

Hum... Sorrry to bring bad news but i just tried the game with the latest offline installer and there is no void egg ( or any new objects) in the qs shop. Nothing has changed...

Thanks for taking a look, many will appreciate that. What they will not appreciate is the fact that as you said, Nothing has changed...

Did you start a new game or continued an existing one ? The person who said it was working offline said he started a new game, maybe it is not retroactively applied to existing saves.

I just loaded my existing save and summoned the anomaly. Maybe starting a new game can work... Any info would be welcome ;)
