Hi there,
All GOG games installed here on a new PC with Windows 11 (3 weeks old) crash on startup with an exception code c0000005. As it is a new PC, it is no issue with the memory.
The games are such as ST Armada 1 and 2, Anno 1604 and 1503, M&M 6, 7, 8 and 9. Funnily Lula is working, maybe due to the underlying DOSBox.
Anybody having an idea, why this could be? And how this can be fixed?
Best regards
The error code is quite generic and indicates a problem with the memory (new memory can be damaged as well).

However, since you said that it's a freshly installed PC, I would not panic immediatly and first install Microsoft's VC and .Net runtime packages for both 32 and 64 Bit.

Dx and Vc++ are usually installed with the game, particularly if he tried multiple games.

Is it a pre-built or did you assemble it yourself?
DDR4 or DDR5?
Details man.

Not necessarily with GoG installers. It's always worth (if you haven't installed a DX9 era game from optical media) downloading the installer.

@OP - Once you've downloaded and installed VC, .net and the DX9.0c redistributable, report back and include system specs.
Being a new computer probably some dependencies are not still installed. Those kind of things that need to be installed/configured usually only once.
It could be just legacy features switched off by default in Win11 like directplay etc, (anyway in this case the reinstall of the specific game should solve the problem, the installer use to enable it silently after the installation) or the need of the installation of Directx9 or Visual C++ etc.

In summary, I recommend a fresh reinstall of the problematic games if not done before.

EDIT: Oh, and one more thing, DOSBOX has nothing to do with it. None of the mentioned games use DOSBOX. The problem seems to be related with old windows games that needed to be tweaked to be compatible in modern Windows.

EDIT: Edited "Any" for "None". Non native usual glitches misleading/mistaking the meaning, indeed

As far as I can tell (based on a very quick look-up of each), none of the other games he mentioned is a DOS game.

Ah, I now see what you mean. I admit that I hadn't looked at Lula itself, and so assumed that it was actually a DOS(Box) game, as he implied. So, yeah, none of the games (rather than none of the other games) uses DOSBox. :)

Non-sense, plenty of things can be wrong with a new PC. Including memory.
Misconfiguration of Hardware, Bios, OC/UC, improper OS installation, Driver Updater, wrong drivers, Microsoft Drivers for hardware, bad AMD/NVIDIA driver setup, no Compatibility set for the game etc...
Not to praise Winblows 11 or anything, but just saying.
Thank you very much.

Sorry, I wasn't able to get back yesterday.

All games were installed shortly after I received the PC, so they are new installs.

I installed the DX package which includes all versions from 9 to 11 from:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/windows-11-and-directx90c-support/0da28157-1791-4d55-bb8f-6cdac90368a6

However, it does not change anything, but I guess, it still used DX12 anyway.

MS VC++ 2005, 2008, 20010, 2012, 2013 and 2015-19 are installed in both x86 and x64.

You are right, Lula is also a Windows game. according to the Wiki. It is the only game that works.

PC specs build by One Gaming:

AMD Ryzen 9 5900X on ASUS TUF GAMING X570-PLUS (WI-FI)
360mm-Radiator - CORSAIR iCUE H150i ELITE CAPELLIX XT, White - ARGB
64 GB DDR4 3600 MHz (4 x 16 GB) - CORSAIR VENGEANCE RGB PRO SL white
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 - GIGABYTE GAMING OC
M.2 SSD: 4 TB M.2 PCIe 4.0 x4 - WD_BLACK SN850X
M.2 SSD: 2 TB M.2 - Lexar NM610PRO
SSD: 1 TB Silicon Power Ace A55
SSD: 1 TB Samsung Evo 850
PSU 850 Watt - GIGABYTE P850G
Thermaltake View 200 TG ARGB schwarz, mit Glasfenster (ATX)
OS: Windows 11 Pro 22H2

I know, that Windows 11 needs massive tweaking, but I am not sure, where to look.

Unfortunately the link neumi5694 sent is not helpful, as it links to a tool, which does not exist anymore.

MisterT1968,

reconsider using Windows 11, because it is, like Windows 10, a "privacy nightmare"!
