Darvond: I think you're crossing wires. I somehow doubt you had access to a Japanese computtter as a lad. Mario VGA wasn't a legit port, either.
You shouldn't have said "port to the PC" as that pretty much implies IBM compatibles. ;P

Anyway, I think I found the Mario game that I played on MS-DOS back in the day. I'm quite positive it was Mario & Luigi.

I found it on a shareware CD-ROM alongside many legitimate demos of games like Tyrian, Knight's Chase and Jazz Jack Rabbit so I assumed it was legit itself. Obviously it's not.

TT_TT_TT_TT: ugh still wanted to get another original controller for the standard price - this might be hard now i guess

hedwards: I have original controllers for NES, SNES and Genesis that I plug into my computer via a USB adapter. I've also got the hardware to dump my own ROMS for most cart based systems.

A bit of an investment on my part, but it's a better deal than having to hope that something like this comes out.

I personally, think this was poor planning on Nintendo's part as these things are unlikely to canabalize any sales for the Switch as nobody is going to avoid buying the Switch just because this has a few ROMS available.
ya that investment sounds solid :).

Still poor planning from nintendo - while i was lucky enough to get a mini nes on the original release date for the regular price back then i didn't order a second controller with it as i first wanted to figure out if i actually like and use the mini-nes or if it will get used once or twice and then not anymore. Since then it was impossible to get a second controller for the original price and right now it even seems like you can't buy it even more for laughable prices like 30€ each. Really disappointing from a customer perspective - guess i have to buy the (luckily decent enough and even wireless) fake controllers now - but really doubtful if i will invest into a possible mini snes then

Darvond: But didn't you hear? Well over 20 years ago, Hudson Soft botched a port of Super Mario Bros to the PC, and despite Apogee's best efforts to try and woo Nintendo, they turned down the idea of letting them port Mario Bros 3! Clearly nothing has changed in such a time!
Damm, that's schizo territory.

Elaborate?
Prepare your wallet, boys...
fuck that
I considered buying NES Mini for Super Mario Bros 1, 2 and 3 (I had great fun with 1 and 2, but never played 3).

Were those games also available on SNES or were NES exclusives?

They appeared on SNES under the title Super Mario All-Stars. Note that there are some differences between the SNES remakes and the original NES games.

Also, 1 was remade for the Game Boy Color (and there's a GBA port of the NES version out there), and 2 and 3 were remade for the Game Boy Advance. (This is not counting Virttual Console releases.)

I'm not a boy, so I guess I don't have to prepare my wallet for this.

Prepare your wallets ladies, gentlemen, and smizmars.

I'm just joking around, I don't mean anything by that.
XD
That's so cool! :D
Except for the Ebay resellers, it's gonna be pointless if the availability is as scarce as the NES Mini.

Also, I'm wondering how many games they would put in it and which ones because the SNES has a big catalogue with lots of good stuff.

Which leads to the inevitable question: if there were only 30 games on a SNES Mini what would they be?

Thanks, I checked some video comparison between NES and SNES verions of Mario 1 and 2, and unfortunatelly, I like more the NES version (except pehaps the Mario character, too few pixels).
I think it's because of how easily it turned out it was too hack. I imagine they might bring it back at some point a bit more locked off. Or it could be they're doing a Disney Vault style thing of bringing it out in limited numbers every few years.
Fuck!
