Only time will tell what will come out of it.
Hellblade is a top priority on my wishlist, but currently way over my budget. But if the current developments mean there is any chance of delisting (I hope there is none), I am not eager to buy it because of that.
Well, played a little bit of Hellblade over friend's steam account. While I can't say it's great game, it would still be sad if it's removed from GOG, especially since it's still on my wishlist.
Well, I will acquire Hellblade on steam then. Hate missing updates.

timppu: Ok you guys convinced me. I just bought Hellblade as it was on sale. I rarely buy 20+€ games, but this was one of those cases.
People at Ninja Theory: “Wow! We are selling so many copies now! People seem to think better of now that we are with Microsoft. We should have sold the company ages ago!”

First Github, now game studios? I wonder what is Microsoft's current strategy. Do they have any?

I don't pretend to know what their strategy is, but these purchases prove that they have one.

Hey guys!

Just to pour some cold truth waters on them burning worries.

Hellblade will not be being removed from the store as a result of Ninja Theories purchase. The agreement for Hellblade to be sold on GOG.com was made with them, and not Microsoft.

Hope this calms and worried minds.

Customers at the game stores: "Oh crap! Better get it now before it's a Microsoft Store exclusive!"

haha

We'll see what happens. Wasn't really on my radar before, and this news doesn't change that.

But Hellblade is a Microsoft IP now, isn't it?

That doesn't mean all previous dealings become void.

KneeTheCap: Well, under microsoft they have better funding and are obligated to port their games to PC as well, so I'd say that's a good thing.
After the first HALO game was released on PC, Microsoft simply refused to port rest of the HALO games on PC because they wanted people to buy their stupid XBOX console and play games on it.

This acquisition can also mean that Microsoft pressures Ninja Theory to make XBOX exclusive games. So us PC users are left out.

Are you allowed to say how long the current agreement lasts? Presumably after that point a new agreement would need to be made and Microsoft might put their foot down then.

Obviously that information may be confidential so feel free to ignore this question if it is ;)

True, but Microsoft has that option now. And if it happens to align with whatever their current strategy is they're not above paying whatever clauses there are for early termination of contract and dismissing whatever sales they'd still get from people that don't buy from their store.

That said, I don't think this game is enticing enough on its own to be the right "tool" for such a dick move, even if it has mostly favorable reviews. The game costs too much for that. Even if every single person who was going to buy elsewhere "converted" to their store it still wouldn't mean widespread adoption.

If MS want to further their customer base they're better off with a far cheaper game or a best-selling behemoth to amass a huge number of users.

ReynardFox: Hellblade flew in the face of the AAA publisher driven garbage strangling this industry
Lol? It was a mainstream action-game using the "dark and grim" visual style of Dark Souls, nothing more. I find it funny how when a developer makes a game that's slightly outside the norm, some people start hailing it as a revolutionary break with the mainstream.
