Take the free games. It won't harm you to sign up and then just unsubscribe if you really don't like the newsletters and wishlist updates. It's very easy to unsubscribe with a click or two in the account settings.

The same free games usually never come up again and I've never seen junk emails from GOG ever. So why miss out. :)

Then it's yet another GOG bug. I am subscribed to the newsletters and already have received some of them, at least occasionally. And I still receive their other marketing mails. Just the mails with the special discounts have stopped since the start of the Winter sale. Perhaps they screwed up something when implementing the automatic subscription for freebies.
