The game is getting some spit and polish. I'm sure they'll make the Mako experience a lot smoother. I didn't have much difficulty with it myself. I played the game on both the 360 and PC. Even when using M/KB I found handling the Mako wasn't too bad.

I actually found the Mako quite intuitive to control (M/KB). Especially with the boosters. Always wondered why so many people find it so difficult to control. The problem (at least to me) wasn't the Mako itself, but the huge empty maps you usually got dropped into (besides story ones). It needed either more points of interest, or smaller maps.

I saw a video showing the Mako in LE and there is less Jank, they also added horizontal thrusters and removed the XP nerf if you kill an enemy inside the Mako.
You can preload the game today, if you bought it already.

Sorry, didn't realize you replied. I blame the stupid permanent blue dot at the top. :P
I didn't have problems with them either, but the controls always felt kinda floaty, oh and let's not forget the mako getting stuck on geometry. :P

Neat, those are some qol improvements I like to see. :)
Sorry for the late reply, I have the infamous blue dot. :P
Some first impressions (ME:1):

- you need to use EA's garbage client. Even on Steam.

- textures and lighting/shadows are improved. By how much depends on what you are looking at. Hair textures are tad off. Some things look amazing and others are only a slight improvement.

- had some issues booting up the game. Got it working eventually.

- controller support (I'm playing on PC) is a nice addition

- as is the new UI.

- no button remapping for controllers. KB/M still has this.

- I'm interested to know how to legendary leveling system will play out. I'm hoping it makes leveling much less tedious.

- ME:1 on Steam has achievements. The regular ME:1 didn't have this on Steam, only Origin.

- I wonder if Jennifer Hale re-recorded the lines. They sound a lot more natural.

- animations in general are better.

- still can't skip the opening intro.

- won't let me upres past 1080p

Edit: reworded leveling comment for clarity.

Edit 2: forgot the last point.

Edit 3: the game has headshots. Headshots were absent in the first ME game (but not the other titles).

... was always there, it just needed a simple mod to unlock it. I played all 3 games with (Xbox 360/One) controller (Windows) years ago.

Sounds like an issue on your system (I'm not defending bugs!).

The combat changes in ME1 are immediately noticeable, head shots do more damage, weapons are more accurate and switching is smoother.

One part I noticed was in the original version of ME1 the Geth in the Eden Prime stage would just stay in the one section to the train would just stay put but in LE they actually attempted to flank my party, other times some enemies would just stay put but that was normal in the original.

Skin textures are smoother and actually makes the characters look younger.

The legendary level system halves the levels from 1-60 to 1-30 but you get 2 levels worth of points per level. Haven't gotten to the Mako yet.
