As part of my effort to shrink my backlog rather than grow it, I've been working on a resolution list of games to "definitely" finish in 2016. Current list:

Definite top 3 goals (and current progress towards) for priority completion:

PixelJunk Shooter (10% - very fun, and totally playable on the broken screen laptop during travel)
Aarklash Legacy (75% - made the mistake of taking a hiatus from playing while in the 'maze')
Marvellous Miss Take (0%)

Ideally I'd also get through at least a couple of these:
Dark Messiah of Might and Magic (40%, but seemingly have to restart from a borked build, so 0%)
Eschalon Book 1 (60%)
Lords of Xulima (15%)
Apotheon (5%)
Sokobond (65%)
Psychonauts (30%)
Legend of Grimrock 1 (50%, but this is like my 6th attempt at running a party through before I stall out and restart)

3 games I don't own that I'd like to add to this list, but need to make some headway on these first. ;)

Curious what else other people already have backlogged (or newly picked up from Santa!) that they're committed - and hopefully looking forward - to completing in 2016.
My only new years resolution for my backlog is to add to the fucking thing! :P

Heh. Do you at least have a target number in mind to give yourself something to shoot for?

Depends on what shows up here I guess.
If I counted correctly, I finished 29 games this year. Next year I'm going for at least 30 :P Next year I'm certain that I will finally finish Dragon Age: Origins. I pick it up again ocasionally and play some, and the save is nearing 40 hours now. I also had a save before this one that I played for 30 hours in, before I decided that my character-build was shit, and started a new playthrough :P This is my main goal in gaming for 2016, to finish DA: Origins.

I will also try to finally defeat D'Sparil (boss of the 3rd episode in Heretic). It's pretty difficult on the highest difficulty :| After that, I'll try to finish the Hexen-games (which I also kinda half-finished).

Rare Replay.. A good chunk of my backlog, all on one disc. I can do this. I've already finished 3 of 30 games on it :D and lots of other half-finished playthroughs on several included games.

And I swore an oath to finish Commandos.

I wish i had the will to actually finish (hell, even start) my backlog... Let me see...

PC

Well, this is my worst backlog since i have WAYYYYYYYYY too many games and i end up giving up midway in hope that i'll return to it later.

Divinity OS (10%)
The Escapists (I'm kind of lost so i will depend if i will have the patience to learn the game using some let's play videos)
Resonance (30%)
Might and Magic X (0%)
Prison Architect (0%)
CIV 5 (0%)
Underrail (0%)
Wasteland 2 (0%)
Way of the Samurai 4 (0%)
Stasis (0%)
Ys The Oath in Felghana (50%)
Ys The Ark of Napishtim (0%)
Pillars of Eternity (0%)
Technobabylon (0%)
Sunless Sea (0%)
Dead State (5%)
Xenonauts (0%)

^ These are the most important that i need to pass, i really have at least +100 more to play but to fully dedicate it will be these... well... maybe 3 or 4 of them... oh god...

3DS:

SMT4 - It's weird, i really REALLY love the game but i always get a bit lost and end up no returning to the game, only in holidays when i give more use to my 3ds.

Fire Emblem Awakening - Not going to touch it until i finish SMT4.

Resident Evil Revelations - Uhm, perhaps i can manage to finish it before the year ends, if not at least in january.

Ace Attorney Trilogy + Dual Destinies - Just bought it but i guess i'll play them after SMT4 and before or during my playthrough of FE:A.

I still have some for ps4 (ex. Diablo 3 and Fallout 4) but that won't be a problem because it's where i pass more of my gaming time.
My New Year's Resolution is to actually start playing and finish more games to lessen my backlog a bit...

Ooooh good thread!

I actually go out of my way to keep a small(ish) backlog - I'll have a few games "lined up" in various genres and of different types (from quick action games to huge RPGs, maybe an impulse purchase that looked interesting and a "big" game that I really wanted, ready to go) and if I have "too many" games I don't buy those "lesser" tier games or cheap but interesting looking impulse purchases that I might otherwise nab.

It also helps that I don't always finish games. I play them for as long as I'm having a good time with them. I don't often force myself to finish a game if I'm no longer enjoying it.

That said, I DO have a couple that are PERFECT "Resolution" type games and I'll try and jump in here!

The first - Wasteland 2. I've told a few people this story and this is a perfect excuse to get it out there. I REALLY wanted this game. I'm pretty sure I was aware of it being Kickstarted and in development even before I returned to PC gaming. When I DID get back into the PC, I still didn't think I'd be able to play this one because I wasn't a member of GoG. Fast forward a bit and I sign up here - the game is released and I STILL don't purchase it. I pass on it quite a few times, actually - for really no good reason.

Finally it shows up in an Insomnia sale and I STILL (LOL, I'm sick, I know ;) ) convince myself I'm going to pass yet again - but I click the banner and... FREE WASTELAND!!! I think it was my only freebie of the sale! (Not that weird, because I don't click every banner - only games I'm interested in - I figure the digital gods of RNG will smile on me if I avoid willy nilly clicking ;) ). You'd think I'd fire this baby up, that I've wanted for so long and denied myself for ages... but no. It still sits in my backlog. I have it hoarded - it's sort of my "break glass in case of emergency" game - the emergency being I'm in the mood for a huge AAA caliber game and don't have one ;)

So I'll try my best to fire this one up this year!

I have two more as well. I grabbed Celestian Tales last sale (or maybe it was two sales ago - confused as they were so close to one another). I was sure I'd play through with at least 3 characters (the story, choices and perspective are supposed to be a bit different depending on which character you select as your "main"). I... didn't. So I'd really like to go back and try at least one more character - even if I don't finish, just to get an idea.

Finally - Don't Starve! I sunk a bit of time into this one... and never felt like it was "enough." I want to binge this hardcore, because I only ever scratched the surface of the game (literally - I went in one cave / hole in the ground and quickly ran out like a scared little baby ;) ). So I'd love to go back and put in a few nice, long playthroughs - really settle in, try to get good at the game and push as deep into it as I can.

So yeah - how's that for long and rambling! If you made it this far, cheers and kudos! ;)
New years resolution for my backlog is very simple:
1. Eliminate girlfriend
2. Replace girlfriend with backlog

AMEN!
Dunno, gonna have to look at the big list I keep around and see which ones I still care about. Beat around 40 games this year, next year I know I will go for Xenoblade X and everything else is up in the air right now.
Well, I did plan on actually finishing Darksiders 2, Diablo 2 and Sin this year, but they will have to be postponed for the next one. Maybe, I'll also succeed at beginning Storm of Zehir and Temple of Elemental Evil... maybe...

One day I'll get it right. I keep buying point and click games but never actually playing them. XD At least with shooters and RTS I install them every once in a while. :P

When I saw you say "backlog", I couldn't resist.
