They really need to spread these things out so people can contribute more. I can see like 10 kickstarter projects for old PC games launching in a few months time and people giving $15 instead of $100 because they just gave $100 two weeks before.
are you going to use this when Bioware announces Baldur's Gate 3?

MobiusArcher: Interesting. It seems Brian Fargo is inspired by Double Fine, and wants to use Kickstarter to make a sequel to wasteland. Its not going to be a console game, and will not attempt to target a mainstream audience either.

SimonG:
I don't know if they can reach a million dollars. There doesn't seem to be as much hype for Fargo's game as Avellone's(who is also thinking about doing the KickStarter funding, but hasn't decided yet). Which makes sense, since Wasteland is an 80s game, whereas Planescape: Torment(which Avellone's known for) came out at the very end of the 90s so it's still fresher in gamer's minds. I sure hope Fargo can rake up enough money, or make a good compromise.
It's Wasteland, this game should get more hype than any of the other suggestion. Or maybe I'm simply too old...

Depends on the game & who''s doing it. Arguably the more well known of both the better the chance the project will get off the ground

Do you really want to hear the answer to this?

No, I don't think they should. What they should do is to raise awareness of the Kickstarter system, so they can get more people interested. If the system is based on customers each paying $100 up front for a potential game which hasn't even started development yet, then the system is a failure.

The trick is to get enough people to pay $15 (or even less, perhaps? Maybe a bit more?) to finance the development. That'll work. It'll be better for the customers and better for the developers.

Not to mention that you get a great deal for your money, if the DF is any indication. 15$ for a brand new DF game including beta access? I would pay twice that anytime for a wasteland game.

PMIK: I never really played wasteland either. How is it different from Fallout? other than the obvious interface/graphics difference.
I played it a while back and got the impression that it's much more... wacky, I believe the word is.
One of the first quests? Kill some killer bunnies infesting a garden. Need to get somewhere in a town? Oh hey, there's a howitzer nearby, shoot it into some buildings and destroy them, people in this world don't seem to mind. One of the last quests involves storming a citadel full of heavily armored nuns armed with heavy weapons. There is a skill called "toaster repair" - you get stuff from broken toasters when you use it - very valuable stuff, and mandatory to complete the plot, if I'm not mistaken. And many more.
Still, worth a try, it's certainly interesting. This let's play is quite entertaining and informative: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IvYcu5qaO-s
I saw this and...

Manly tears.

Exactly. It's not going to work if people have to pay twice the normal price of a new game, but if they can pay less than normal, while freeing the developer from the creative shackles of a publisher, everybody wins.

SimonG: The old Wasteland had the "Book DRM", ahh the old times ...
Yeah, I think that did more to profit xerox than stop piracy.
Never played it, but love the Fallout franchise, and I will totally support this. I really want this kickstarter thing to shake up the industry and show them that there is definitely still a market for old-school genres.

Well, I'm afraid of the answer, so probably not.
Some news on twitter from Mr. Fargo: Mike Stackpole, one of the original designers of Wasteland, signed up as a designer for the new Wasteland! Also there's going to be a site up soon for everyone to post their wishlists.
