Okay, if one million is indeed enough and just for fun I will jump the wagon. :)

With more than a million (hopefully) they will be able to create a better game.

Now since I didn't play the original, maybe somebody could also tell me, what made the original outstanding from all other RPGs. Was it the story of a post-apocalyptic world? Or was there more to the gameplay? A special humor maybe?

What do you think will Wasteland 2 make different from Mass Effect or Dragon Age or Skyrim ... apart from smaller budget and crowd financing?

Yes, yes and yes. Moral choices with consequnces later in game and interesting skill system. If there was a locked gate, you could try crowbar on it or just use your pure strenght attribute or try other thing/skill/attribute at something else.

The same reason i ditched ME and ignored DA and buy Eschalon. Soul maybe? :)

But i just hope, it will be more Fallout/Arcanum style game then these more modern RPGs.

OK, so what will set Wasteland 2 apart from the original Fallout?
You have more control over your team and the world isn't set in the pseudo 50's.
This thing is flying faster than I would have imagined. I just woke up and its almost to $600k!
well it is now 600k and going

To answer the first part: IMHO? As an RPG, it's okay. The combat is alright, somewhat similar to Wizardry and Might & Magic, but closer to the former (more phase-based than turn-based). You assign actions to each party member, then you watch the action play out in scrolling text.

But what I think differentiated the game from everything else was the large, harsh, brutal street-punk world (I had trouble finding my way around and surviving, at the start of the game), and that the game's got a good mix of adventuring and combat. You could come across a lot of details that stood out from the background, in the sense that while the game wasn't a graphical breakthrough, there was a lot of text that narrates and creates detailed imagery within your mind. In that way, the world was a lot less generic.

Of course, being quite young when I played it, I never got very far in the game. I would just wander about, experiment, but never proceed far. I would either get killed by some reptile or a group of punks. I really have got to sit down one of these days for a serious playthrough.

So what will make W2 different from the games you just listed? For one, I think that there'll be a lot more adventuring to it, and the solutions will be less straightforward. I also can't wait to see what kind of interesting characters they'll come up with. I'm really looking forward to these two aspects.

Mass Effect and Dragon Age are both very linear games both in story and open world sense. In these games playing multiple times you will always move same from point A to point B, only matters characters you have with you and some set choices you have made. Skyrim have open world that you can explore but story is still very linear, it even doesn't have depth and choices Mass Effect got.
Wasteland 2 developers want to make their game more open, sandboxy and that your every action matters and npcs/world react/changes accordingly. And don't forget that you can help them make the game, there is no publisher/investor wall between us.

In a way my first RPG that I couldn't stop playing was Gothic 1. In the end it just was a rpg with a lot of fighting. The aspects that I liked especially was the ambience mostly supported by the music, the exploration of the world and game play wise that you could climb and move in 3D. On the other hand now that I played a dozen or so rpgs, they are all very similar in the end.

An open world with realistic NPCs and interactions where every action matters. Everybody always promises this. In the end many fail. It's just a very complex task.

But I would like if they just take a working graphics system from yesteryear, the story setting from Wasteland/Fallout and concentrate fully on gameplay and story and making the world believable and interesting. That would be enough for me.

And since they seem to be willing to let their fans be part of the process I would totally like if they would make many polls about development decisions. I really like to vote on polls. I'll probably not have the time for many written contributions but being part of the decision process would be awesome. With these polls whose result would influence the game I would be completely satisfied. :)))
I don't have any real interest in this game, but I do love that it's doing so well being funded by fans of the original or those who love the genre. :) Kickstarter seems great, and appears to give consumers much more control over what THEY want.

EDIT: Oh, and GOG should take this opportunity to tell Brian how re-releasing Wasteland here will generate interest in Wasteland 2 and probably lead to more funding.

This for the Epic Win of Doom!
I've never spent $100 on a game before. I didn't even think twice about it however, even though I really need to buy a new pair of gore-tex shoes.

Hells, I'd intended to save up my part-time job's money to buy a pair of contact lenses this month, and I just took all of that out to pay for Double Fine's game and now Wasteland 2.

As much as I wanted to pledge to Double Fine to support the cause, I'm just not that into adventure games. I heard about Obsidian possibly creating a Kickstarter project and decided to hold off for that. Wasteland 2 is even better. I really can't think of anything I'd like to see more.
The total pledges is already approaching $700,000, I hope the total goes well over the stated goal considering that more money raised equals more content in game.
I have kicked in $50 which is all I can afford right now.
