Interesting. It seems Brian Fargo is inspired by Double Fine, and wants to use Kickstarter to make a sequel to wasteland. Its not going to be a console game, and will not attempt to target a mainstream audience either.

I'd love to see that, and if he Kickstarts the thing, I'll be there. I've read a good many articles remembering Wasteland very fondly, but it feels just too old and clunky for me, not having played it back in the day. I haven't been able to get into it at all.
Jeeze! These developers are going to ruin me. But okay. Okay. I asked for it. I'm game! Bring it on! :D

Edit:
Funny thing. First time I heard about and played Wasteland was back in the HOTU days. I probably wouldn't be interested if it hadn't that been for that "pirate" website (it really wasn't though; it was a website for gamers by gamers that emphasized gaming gems that had gotten lost in time and was unavailable elsewhere. I have no regrets!). Which is what I've been trying to say for years: yesterday's pirates are tomorrow's investors and costumers.

Excellent news. Remember playing this game on my old C64 years and years ago :).
Pls no 3D or require Steam DRM . This and Obsidian's interest in making a new RPG using Kickstart looks promising :)
Never played it but as an avid Fallout fan I keep hearing about it. I'd love to play something like this.
The old Wasteland had the "Book DRM", ahh the old times ...
I'm definitely all for it, but do you really think he'll be able to raise the "at least 1 million dollars" he's talking about.

Shafer's been doing some good work for years but (please correct me if I am wrong) Fargo has not done anything special for a long time.

Not that it would stop me from supporting someone who developed so many amazing RPGs but I think it might be a harder sell than the double fine adventure.
Wastland already HAS sequals - Fountain of Dreams and Fallout!

Very true. But fortunately, it is free to add a project to Kickstarter; so he would loose little if it doesn't get funded. Worth a try. ;)

The worst "DRMs" in my book are still those that need my effort. Especially disc based, I think there wasn't a single game I didn't crack before the digital age.

And the "book drm" was awesome. I still have mine with "numbers" somewhere, so I can read up on the story.

I never really played wasteland either. How is it different from Fallout? other than the obvious interface/graphics difference.

'book drm' was awesome in its day. Paragraph upon paragraph :). Shame lot of games dont bother with proper manuals or the like anymore either...:/

My tounge was very firmly pushed into my cheek when I said that but how many unofficial sequals does a game need before an official on seems a bit pointless?
Still, any new old-skool RPG is good stuff!
