Now that the sale is over I realise that the unecessary big top bar covers a part of the page. Probably explains why the zooming, dizzyness inducing pictures are so large. Now that i blocked them, the bar covers almost half of the new releases pictures. The amount of terrible web design that went into this page is really insane...

The amount of bad decisions made here with this UI are truly amazing.
Whoever is responsible for this redesign did not deserve to graduate from any graphic or web design courses they took as they clearly didn't learn a thing.
Then again, with how many tertiary education centers are going these days, maybe they DID learn and that's the problem.

Absolutely. But there is also another problem: Someone must have given the "okay" to go ahead with the whole mess. That is, in my opinion, even more troubling.

! GOG - Remove image carousel

In my opinion the UI changes did not make anything more efficient or faster. While this new flashy look might be appealing to the new generation of gamers that grew up with steam and youtube it does, in my opinion, not sit well with older gamers which often prefer usability over looks. I get more and more the impression that we forgot to teach the "kids" the important things and now we get to suffer for it.
We should be given a choice to stay with a more simple design layout and it would help to ask the customers what sort of improvements they think would make the page better. Might give you some ideas maybe even let them vote on new ideas to see what their reactions will be.
And by this GOG would be able to cater to the wishes of far more people... renewing and reinventing yourself is not a bad thing as such but if your users run away then who is going to buy your games.

You can configure uBlock Origin to kill off any connection from GOG to Youtube, like I outlined in the screenshot below. Ideally there is even no black empty frame for the blocked player if you configured it correctly.
Block youtube.com (and googlevideo.com, ytimg.com) locally (column on the right). This pane is only visible if you enable advanced mode in uBlock Origin.
Don't mind bigpizzafries.com, this is a domain the for Adalia Essentials userscript.
