hummer010: The interface and the engine are the biggest changes. BG1EE uses a modified version of the BGII engine. This allows for some different classes and subclasses. Stackable items in the inventory hold more stuff. There are containers (gem bag, potion case, scroll case) which also help with inventory management. I prefer the EE interface over a widescreen modded original, but that's personal preference.

There is some added content, but it's not that great. Perhaps my biggest complaint about the EE version is that there is no way to turn off the added content. I wish they had a setting that could allow you to just play with the original content and NPC's.

Oh, the other advantage for me, the EE versions run natively on Linux. The originals have to use WINE or GemRB.

For the record, BG1 is pretty much my favorite video game ever, so I may have a case of rose-colored-glasses when it comes to BG1.

MiloRivers: Thanks for answering my question, glad i got the most bang for my buck. And i believe we all wear the nostalgia goggles from time to time. Don't get me talking about Morrowind, or I'll most likely make a fool of myself ;)

nightcraw1er.488: Its a shame you brought into the whole "enhanced" version of BG1/2 - you now miss out on the large amount of cummity content which doesn't work with the "endhanced" version. For instance, you could get BigWorld which combines both games, all the additional missing content, loads of npcs, extra user content (totalling around 30gb), all installed in three variations - i.e. one install changes the rules somewhat to make it more challenging.

MiloRivers: i had no idea they combined both games together, that's great! Thanks for making me feel a tad bit regretful of my purchase ;) haha
There are a couple of mods that merge the two so they both use number 2 s engine, BGTtrilogy is one, tutu the other. Have a look at giberlings3, sorcerors place and the various other sites, there are literally thousands of mods. Admitedly some do work with the "enhanced" version.

I've never done it, but apparently Big World does work with the Enhanced Editions now.

MiloRivers: interesting, either way i'll have to play the first, even if it is a drag. I'd hate to not get the full effect of the story, otherwise.
As Looger says, BGII is finely playable without playing BG first (as it tells you what happened), but I think that way you'll "rush" into the story (let's say there's a big spoiler in BGII about BG but can't say more) and since you are story focused player you don't want to do that!
If you liked KOTOR, then you'll be right at home in BG and BG II.

I was a big fan of the original games, but the EE is just fine, too. If I were in your shoes right now, I'd play BG1 EE and wait a short while until they finish BG 1.5, then play 1.5 and then 2.

I'm surprised noone has mentioned Shadowrun Dragonfall (Director's Cut) yet. It has an amazing story. Don't play Shadowrun Returns, because that's just boring, and you can also try Shadowrun Hong Kong but it's not as good as Dragonfall.

blotunga: I think you'll also like The Witcher. The engine was based on Nwn's Aurora and the story is pretty solid.

MiloRivers: The first entry, correct? Because i've already played through the 2nd and 3rd.
Yes, the first one.
Baldur's Gate 1-2 EE and Icewind Dale EE have a native mac and linux version (the original only have a wineskin version for mac and wine for linux), so it's a good thing you have bought EE (also if you don't want to mod a lot the EE are great). Also you get official multi-language with the EE.

I know that lots of people don't care about that, but with EE I can finally play Baldur's saga on my mac in italia language (with official support)... the italian version of Baldur's gate 2 will be out soon, while Icewind dale EE and Baldur's gate 1 EE already got italian language.

I think you should play all the D&D games:
Baldur's Gate 1-2 EE, Icewind Dale EE, Icewind dale 2, Planescape: Torment, The Temple of Elemental Evil, Neverwinter Nights Diamond, Neverwinter Nights 2 Complete, Dungeons & Dragons: Dragonshard, Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone, Divine Divinity
+
Shadowrun: Dragonfall and Returns (Dragonfall is better but Returns it's not bad at all... I really liked the triller story), The Witcher 1 (really different and better than the witcher 2), fallout 1-2.

You're definitely correct, I'll be playing the Baldur's Gate, first. No question! lol

I didn't hear very good things about Returns, but I've watched a few reviews for Dragonfall, and it looks relatively unique to anything I've seen recently. I'll consider that as well :)

Do you have a link or anything for that. It would be a big step forward if it could be done, but I have my doubts.

GOG handed that to me as a freebie in a relatively recent promo and I still haven't gotten to it yet. I really need to get moving on that!

Here. This is a mod manager based on Big World. It may or may not be as complete/large as BigWorld on the originals. Like I say, I haven't used it.

ty for providing a link to that.
If you don't mind very old games and like Fallout's general setting you might like Wasteland (Fallout was created by a team tht wanted to make Wasteland 2 but couldn't get the rights)

I haven't played Wasteland 2 so I can't comment on it.
