Maxis server support outside of the USA has been flakey in the past so haven't bought the new Sim City yet.
I don't care about multiplayer or any social aspects; I'm just worried about not having a functioning game
or not being able to update/patch.....

Why not just skip it entirely and go for Cities Skylines instead?

Have Skylines and playiing it right now.

Thought that maybe the new Sim City might offer more 'down in' the city interaction.

Yep it's playable offline, but you might have large update when you first install.

Sim City is supposed to be terrible even without the DRM. It's not just EA that screwed up that game, but Maxis too.

Thanks, that's what I've been looking for.

Every once in awhile some site wags the complete edition around for under thirty; Crappy game play is fair go but no
game play what-so-ever because unsupported connection is just wank.
