Breja: I always feel so alienated in threads like this after a while. Everyone has a Trek they hate and they can be all "it can't possibly be worse!" or "I lost all faith in Trek after that!". And here I am, liking pretty much all things Trek. Sure, there are single episodes here and there I hate, but a whole show or even a movie? I like them all, even when I'm aware of how flawed some were.
Well hey I ended up liking most of the odd numbered Star Trek films. Even going as far as saying Nemesis is my favorite of the TNG Star Trek movie. Followed by First Contact (well the best parts of that movie was in the Enterprise, never cared for the Earth sequences)

And I thought The Voyage Home was weaker then Search for Spock.

I have yet to see Voyeger and Enterprise.

Sure the parts on the Enterprise are more interesting, but I always loved Cochrane's portrayal in that movie. It was great to see the "Utopia Age" was ushered in by someone not as squicky clean and perfect as humans tend to be in Trek. Zefram Cochrane- breaching the Warp barier with booze and rock'n'roll. I'll raise a glass to that.

I must admit, I quite like it all. Granted, there are various aspects that don't hold up so well, but there's nothing that I actually hate. Cringe at, or mildly dislike, maybe.

I'll even go so far as to say that Star Trek V, often regarded as one of the worst movies, wasn't so bad overall! :-)

You should give Star Trek Enterprise another chance. The show fails at making a good first time impression with people but I find it superior to Deep Space 9. You just have to look past the theme song, the uniforms of the Enterprise crew and the first episode.

Perhaps, but it seems like reboots are a massively mixed bag. Batman has had several good reboots over the years. But, Spiderman's had some issues at times in that department.

It would be nice if the new series is well thought out, developed and a quality series, but who knows. They aren't rebooting it because we don't have enough Star Trek to watch, they're doing it because there's a huge market for it. Whether or not that translates into them spending the money necessary to get quality writing is a completely different matter.

Perhaps I will. I tend to prefer the older ones, I can't recall why exactly I was watching DS9, but it was kind of a nice change of pace over the other serieses.

When I first started watching Enterprise, I was thinking, this is going to be worse than Voyager but then I started seeing episodes with a lot of action scenes, crazy scenarios, characters with depth who also grow over time. I also started seeing relationships form between characters too. It was also nice to see a lot of first time encounters between aliens and humans. And because the NX-01 is a very weak ship compared to most of the ships out there, it is like watching the underdog survive and thrive in hostile space, which is very entertaining for me. And because Captain Archer is a noob(I don't blame him though) compared to Kirk and Picard, many episodes of Enterprise are like watching Epic Fail videos and were very entertaining.

And this is why they shouldn't have cast Idris Elba as the villain in the next movie, he would be much better as a starship captain in a series.

Never got around to see Voyager (janeway)or Enterprise (Bakula ?how long did this actually go for?)
I wouldnt say im a hard core fan but TNG had its moments. Im surprised anyone is critical of this news :). its not as if we are flooded by quality scifi shows (there seems to be a lack of current....). Im another who wasnt impressed by DS9...

This new Star Trek series will be boldly going where I won't: streaming web subscriptions. I pay for TV already. I'm not about to pay more for shows that decide to air independently while still broadcasting their other crap on TV. BOOOO!!!

And to add insult to injury, they're going to broadcast just the first episode on regular TV. This new series should be renamed Star Crack!

Star Trek IV where they go to save the whales was pure garbage. Also, it was hard for me to take Voyager seriously with Mrs. Columbo as the captain...

Star Trek V is garbage too. Fortunately Star Trek VI is good.
