Who would want to tie hardware to accounts? This is just evil. Registering the serial number seemed like a much more user-friendly method. I see al the problems we have with DRM in software and DRM coming to hardware if this is allowed to persist.

What do you guys think? Discuss you cishet scum.
Aren't you being a bit misleading?
Geforce Experience is just an application to help you configure games, not a driver.

Nah, they announced a while back that certain "game ready" drivers would be locked behind the account system in Geforce Experience.

Really?
Oh wells, I didn't see that in this article when I skimmed it.

Well Geforce Experience also offers Shadowplay which from my experience offers the best stress free experience for casual streaming - also performance wise way better than obs - so ya not totally useless :D. I actually like using it for my casual streams from time to time. So ya basically now they "forced" me to create an account to keep using it for streaming (yes i know i could always use obs - but totally not worth for me for casual streams)

I believe they backtracked on that part I read somewhere I think.

That is definitely bad.
I used GFexperience only for ShadowPlay (video capture tool) but, fortunately, there are multiple solutions like this out there so I can just choose and use another product that doesn't require the creation on an online account.
For now I'll download the drivers anonymously but I'll never make an nvidia account. And I hope they aren't that dumb to condition the drivers to an online account.

I hope that's true.
But drivers are required for a card to function properly on newer games. And there have been drivers that boost performance quite significantly. Also, driver updates will certainly be needed for DX12 on cards that will support it. And the many other features mentioned here along with allowing configuration of the GPU and setting up or turning off multiGPU settings.

Also, if this were to spread, isn't it possible they'd try to prevent us from selling our outdated cards because they can lock them to accounts?
How do you know it's not just a beta thing?
Logging in has always been an option for GFE, and I'm pretty sure it's only for cloud usage, and shield specific things.

I'll check it out now and give a first-hand account.

If logging in is mandatory at some point well, that just means I won't be recording anything from Bongacams anymore...

edit: okay I know what's happening here after some careful, level-headed reading.
- yes, you are required to login for something.
- 'something' refers to the new GFE update.
- 'something' does NOT refer to graphics drivers.

Simple as that. You will need to login to update GeForce Experience only. You are free to download drivers anonymously using the old manual method of this: http://www.geforce.com/drivers
What do you lose? An app that helps you optimize your games if you're not too good at going into options and playing with settings yourself; an app that lets you stream anything on your screen. It may still be possible to use GFE in its old pre-prettied up form, I'd imagine.

edit again: for shits and giggles... check the picture I attached. It was the immediate thing that popped up once I updated GFE.

Thanks for sorting it out! I thought GFE was the only way to access driver software / GPU control settings and they were locking that up in the beta.
