@E3 bethesda announced that the new DOOM's first level, in the spirit of shareware from ye olden days, would be free to play on Steam, xbone and PS4, for ONE WEEK.

When I first heard them saying it, I was all, "oh wow, good on them" and then when they laid the "one week" bomb, I was like, "fuck you, bethesda, haven't you gotten enough of our money that you can't just let the demo run?"

What is so terrible about letting people have a demo of your game? why have companies gotten so far away from demos? Is it that difficult to do? I don't understand. seriously.
well. Demo is kinda for horest developers - not ones who sold their souls for moneys to drm-god!!!!

besides of that - publishers nowadays rely on more decieving ways to promote games - like "in-engine" video trailers that costed them half of the budget.
What? The demo is temporary? Eh, that kinda sucks and is pretty unnecessary. :/

I downloaded it today and played it. The game feels great and is simply a lot of fun. And surprisingly enough, it runs quite decently on my weak-ass laptop. So I'm probably getting this at some point, but not for 60 bucks. The game should get a healthy discount by Christmas. >_>

Oh, thanks for the laughter today. ^-^

Who wants to bet that the "Demo" is even filled with Denuvo? Not touching another Securom with 10foot pole.
It is sad but DEMOS don't make any sense from the business perspective.

IIRC Extra Credits did a video on that.

i understand, and i don't think i'd have thought too too much about it, but it was that whole nostalgia crap they were pulling like they were going back to their roots. that's what pissed me off. er, disappointed rather.

Being just the first level i don't see why they don't leave the demo free. Physically chop out all content outside the first level and cut the textures/sound quality in half for size so hopefully it will fit on a CD, and call it good.

True shareware was 1/3rd or so of the game was free, or the first whole chapter, and you were encouraged to share and give the game away. It also fit on 1-2 disks as i recall :P

Ah from that, yeah that sucks, but at least now you've learned.
It's E3 week, anything to get hopes up, shiny eyes and empty wallets.
