tort1234: A lot of adults liked Toy Story. It was a good movie with an excellent script that brought out the child in everyone, even grown-ups.

Unfortunately, now we can't expect movies of that caliber from Dinsey as they have gone full feminist and political correctness mode.

Japanese anime on the other hand like Nausicca: Valley of the wind or any other anime film directed by Hayao Miyazaki are timeless classics and blow away any of the modern garbage Disney is producing.

morolf: Maybe I shouldn't write that as someone who's spent far too much of his life on computer games...but the fact that adults watch movies like Toy story or read Harry Potter and the like...umm, perhaps it might be a worrying sign that Western societies have become infantilized to a dangerous degree?
Can't comment on Japanese anime, though I suppose at least some of it has real artistic merit.
Problem is (I think) adult movies is just as mentally stimulating as kids movies. There is very little adult movies as mental stimulating like "Catch me if you can"

It mostly gives special effect and "feels", just like lids movie. And they bring extra pain like ridiculous plot holes and failing to be something it wants to be. On that I feel kids movies is more enjoyable than adult movies since it concentrate on special effects and "Feels" and do not bother pretending to be something it is not.

Yeshu: Disney is making a movie set in the Hawaiian culture and mythos about a "princess"
Apart from the "princess" part, this looks good to me. Far as I understand, she's the chief's daughter, and in that sense a princess, and it's kind of tiring to get that message again that birthright is the most important thing to get ahead in life. Zootopia was much better in this respect.

Leroux: So you actually believe the hype and let it influence your opinion of the thing itself? Or you're not able to enjoy something if someone you dislike is praising it? That seems pretty childish. You're the one who's giving them power (over you, mostly). If you were initially interested in the movie, just judge it by its own merits and ignore all the bullshit.
It's more like with Frozen and Zootopia, the marketing and fandom push is so big that it actually pushes me away. I will watch it to have an opinion on it but whenever someone mentions it I just wanna shut my ears and go "lalalalala".

Zootopia had a big marketing push?
I saw it last week and never heard anyone talk about it aside from a few mentions online. O_o

Frozen people just wouldn't shut up about. (mostly the one song)

morolf: Disney movies are for children...assuming you're an adult, why do you even care about them?
Walt Disney once said that if you make movies only for the children you fail as an artist.

Consider yourself lucky. And yeah, the people doing the Zootopia marketing managed to make a small shitstorm around the movie. Mostly catering to the furry fandom and asking them to come and see the movie in furry suits.

morolf: Maybe ashamed is the wrong word...but do you think you'll win the respect of other people or impress women by recounting your "achievements" in gaming?
More likely you'll be seen as some weirdo loser....
Harsh but true.
At this point I have no idea why I'm even conversing with you.

Why would getting the respect of others or impressing women matter if you enjoy doing it? O_o
