Mm.. it seems that Skylake is too early for Linux (or for some distros).
Few people tried it and they have problems.
I guess the PC purchase is on hold..
You can always build new PC with 4690k, price wise (with good cooler) it should be near the skylake platform (with stock cooler) and you should be able OC it beyond 6600. Ofc it's older platform but It is worth considering.

Yeah, but it doesn't seem great to choose an older platform for the same price, just because Linux isn't ready.
True, it all depends what you want, if you are over the budget and want the best "Performance per Euro" setup at this moment then Skylake is not the best deal.
If you don't want PC for now but for next few years the Skylake may be a better option.
If you can wait then there is no problem, you will see how things sort out (the ddr4 and the motherboards prices should be more reasonable soon... hopefully...).

But overall whatever you pick, you should be happy with the performance in next few years. :P
Oh well, maybe I'll just switch to Win7 (somehow*).
A pity, because I was willing to try Linux, but I'll decide in the future.

*I'll have to find a valid license, use the usb patcher for Skylake, understand if 4k sector format causes problem on the SSD.

Since it's just an issue with the integrated GPU, you could just get a cheap low-end card to use until you're ready to get a decent GPU.

Hi adamhm.
It's not just that, it seems that there are other problems with the new mobos (eg: audio, network).
Some people said that the drivers aren't ready and that it could even take 1 year for Linux to catch up properly.
Also that kernel 4.x is unstable at the moment and not supported by Mint. Maybe Ubuntu is a bit ahead, but I don't like its OS X UI style (plus the news about Canonical).

Wine? Even if cool, it still feels behind.. the games\programs list is maintained quite badly.

Ok, I've downloaded the Win7 Pro SP1 Eng X64 U iso, now I "just" need to find a legit key seller.. O_o
While I have no experience with it, I've heard there is a reddit forum that seems legitimate. Do some research, though.

you're definitely overpaying for the case, you could find decent cases for 50-70eur.
you also won't need 650W psu, a 400-500W one would be enough even for 980ti. Look for seasonics also.
good choice for the cooler, the stock is very noisy. but you should find it in the 25-30eur price level.
don't drop the SSD, it's mandatory! get at least 250/256GB.
for 1080p a 960(with4GB) or 970 it's enough. don't spend more if gaming at 1080p. Also, as much a I root for AMD I have to admit that nvidia is technically superior atm so I'd get an nvidia chip.

phaolo: A new monitor and a GTX 980 will have to wait, sadly.
EDIT: LM doesn't seem yet ready for Skylake. I'll have to rely on Win7..
Well, if you have some means (ie an older PCIe GPU and a display) to check if the new hardware is perfectly fine, don't bother. Otherwise, I would strongly suggest to wait for the right time to buy the complete package...

Skylake: I'm designing my next PC myself, right now I don't have the money but I'm still planning to get an Haswell-based platform (Core i7-4790K) over a Skylake one. The money I spare on that will go for a fucktastic monitor (2K, 144/165Hz, G-Sync) by Asus....
